*cough* *coughcough* *coughcoughcough* *puts modly hat on* A reminder: You may discuss bacon theology in the theology room, but under the circumstances that it relates to how we should/have/can portray it in our writing or relate it to writing. Otherwise, you can talk about bacon theology in another GD thread you create or PM. Carry on.

*coughcoughcough* *takes modly hat off* It would be hilarious to see a bacon theology thread. It wouldn't give me a heart attack. Just a laughter fit. And we all know laughter does the heart good like medicine. ^_^

*cough* I, as a moderator, am hereby abusing my powers in banning those from this thread who detest bacon. So, Lycanis, get outta here buddy!

 Just kidding. ;)

Look, here's the thing. There are always, always, two sides to a story. So, I'm going to create a bacon challenge here. Advocate the side that you do not support for an entire day on this thread. So, bacon opposers, support bacon. Show why it's good. And bacon lovers, find reasons to hate bacon. This is what we get to do in debate. :dieshappy: No matter what our personal opinion is, we have to advocate two different sides to better understand them and make a better, less biased decision. So... just try it. And let's see if we can gain a better understanding for one another. ;)

I'll start:

Bacon should be avoided because it can cause physical illnesses. Here's a quote from something I found: "...but the thing you have to watch out for when it comes to bacon is the nitrates (also called nitrites like sodium nitrite). It's a preservative used in processed food to help maintain its color.

Nitrates can be found in bacon, hot dogs, sausages, and cold cuts. The reason they are so bad for us is that when we cook them at high temps, they form Nitrosamines, which are carcinogenic. In the news, nitrite-based preservatives were found to be linked to pancreatic cancer." Link to the article thingy where this quote was found. Fitsugar. (Note: I haven't read all of the article, nor have I explored anywhere else on this site, so read at your own risk of language or any other content...) I don't know how reliable this is or anything, but it seems logical.

The rules in these proceedings are very loose. You don't have to get "reliable" sources or anything... just advocate the other side. ;)

Have fun!

That's a good start Lycanis... ;) But, how about more than just merely un-avoided? Why should people want it, not just un-avoid it? I suppose I could change my own wording to bacon should be detested. :D We'll warm up to it.

Our bodies are the temples of the Lord, and bacon, as with sugar, should be strictly kept in moderation.

A study, done in 2010 proved that those that ate bacon, and hot dogs have twice the chance of getting heart disease then those that didn't eat it on a regular bases.

Bacon should be avoided solely for the purpose that lots of people can make an idol out of it... what good is a die-hard bacon fan if he forgets who gave him the bacon? There is a surprising obsession with bacon on the internet these days, and it's just one more distraction to where our priorities should be.

(Nemo... what are you doing to me??? D: I'm actually making sense, here!)

I return to HW with a humble confession to make to you all.

After all that I said here...I went off to camp and *enjoyed* a lot of bacon over the week. Not turkey bacon. The real thing.

We had crispy burnt bacon; kinda awful greasy, chewy-ish bacon; bacon in gravy over biscuits for breakfast; bacon in sandwiches for lunch; bacon in green beans for dinner....

Get the idea? Lots of bacon. (Apparently the camp cooks are really fond of it...maybe like Eli.)

And I realized I have come to like bacon.

Firstly? Y'all are nuts. ;)

Secondly: I used to love bacon (and still do) but I choose not to eat it because I know what pigs eat... o.O And their meat is highly unhealthy based on what they eat. (trust me, if you had heard the stories I have about what pigs eat, you would not touch any kind of pork. :P) I also don't eat it because pig is one of the foods the Bible says not to eat in the OT. Not that I think it's a salvation issue or a sin or anything HUGELY important like that, but mainly because I think the Bible provides a lot of insight into what is and isn't the best for your body. :D

And thirdly: Why isn't there a chocolate thread?! *goes to make* ;)

*grimace* Yeah...pigs eat each other actually. Not to mention, their digestive systems are VERY rudimentary, so basically all the junk they eat goes STRAIGHT to their meat. *shudders*

Which would be why I almost never eat pork/ham/bacon. It scares me! :pale:

It IS soooo tasty though...

Burger King released a bacon flavored ice cream sundae. I am on the hunt to see if it is served within my area. I will report back if my mission is a success.

That does sound awful. :/

I'm not crazy about bacon, or think it's the greatest thing in the world-can't live without it. But it's good food, within reason.

My dad made bacon today, and I had four pieces. Nice, crunchy, almost-burned perfection. :D

That's awesome, Elly.

Just so everyone knows I have a really cool thing to share.
Bacon candles! Once you make bacon pour the fat drippings into something, like a small jar, once you do that put a wick in the middle, and then you have an awesome candle.

I’ve tried the Burger King bacon sundae and lived to tell the tale. Don’t try it, sort of. It’s really a chocolate caramel sundae with bacon bits mixed in and a strip of bacon on top. Honestly, it wasn’t that bad. Burger King has great ice cream almost like Dairy Queen and the chocolate caramel sundae by itself is pretty good.

My complaint is Burger King used their smokey barbecue bacon and I was expecting either caramelized bacon or applewood smoked bacon, either one would have made it ten times better as both are a sweet tasting bacon.

My only other complaint is I literally saw three years of my life fade away after the first bite. I really hope nothing important happens in those three lost future years…

Anywho, really though, the mixture of barbecue and ice cream didn’t taste very good and for some reason my brother couldn’t stop eating it.

“This is awful,” he'd say, putting another large spoonful in his mouth.
“The why are you still eating it?” I'd say.
“I don’t know! I can’t stop! It’s the bacon!”

In closing, try it if you dare but it doesn’t live up to hype.

But more importantly I’ve heard rumors floating around about a Green Tea flavored ice cream. This requires investigating and so I’m on the hunt again. Tally-ho!

*dons safari hat, binoculars, and plastic spoon and heads off to Super Target*

This is going to be the most immature thing I've ever said, but hey, we all have our moments.

You have to die of something. I.e. bacon.

Redemption is to be purchased, to have a price paid. So I was redeemed from my master sin, and from justice, which demanded my death. For He paid the price of sin by becoming sin, and met the demands of justice by dying for us.

For all men have a master. But a man cannot have two masters. For he will love one and hate the other. You cannot serve God and sin. So I die to the old, as He died, and I am resurrected to the new, as He was resurrected.

Note: Ebed is Hebrew for bondsman, Eleutheros is Greek for unrestrained (not a slave).

So this isn't about the new five points of Calvinism?

Nice!

I'm pretty sure I don't want to try a bacon sundae. Just sayin'.

The new five points of Calvinism are:
Bad people
Already elected
Completely atoned for
Overwhelmingly called
Never fall away

BACON.
