OK, to keep a thread from derailing... =) In your dream house, what sort of setup do you have for writing/reading, etc?

In my dream three-story Victorian home, there is an entire floor (the second one) devoted to reading/writing. No walls on the entire floor (except the crucial support ones, of course) means there is a LOT of room for books.

Half of the room is devoted to books and the other half is a comfy reading lounge with those AMAZING leather chairs, in front of a fireplace, surrounded by big glass windows so one can hear the rain when it is raining.

And tucked away in some corner is a little nook with overstuffed leather beanbags, a small wall shelf of writing books, and a big skylight. =)

You don't want to see the rest of the house. But...this would be awesome. :D So, those of y'all who were afraid of derailing the other thread can come over here. :)

Thanks for starting a new thread, Eruheran! Can I please come visit you in your dream house? ;) :D

Ok! My dream house...

A two story homestead style house, stone with a blue roof and trim. Either that, or a gothic castle in the Scottish highlands. ;) My writing room would be on the second floor, and it would probably span half of the room, with floor to ceiling windows facing out the front of the house that have long navy drapes. The rest of the walls would be shelved like bookcases, except for the wall with the fireplace and the wall where my writing desk would be. I would have a thick red rug on the floor, and in one corner near the bookshelves, two of the biggest comfiest chairs, and a small coffee table. My writing desk would span one wall, and it would contain my computer, a speaker system for music, an enormous black board with many different coloured markers, and in the corner by the windows I would have an easel set up complete with paper, canvas and paints.

I might leave it there before I get too carried away. :D

I have a thing for round. I want a round house. And I definitely want a round library.

So my library is round, with bookcases on every wall, interspersed with windows of course. That's about all I've planned about it, except that I want to hang it with Narayan tapestries. (Myst geek alert)

I don't plan my dream house anymore since I've sort of become a realist to a point. >< (I have scrapped several drawings of dream houses.)

If anything, I looooove those libraries in movie where the books are on shelves all the way to the ceiling. Then you need one of those beautiful rolling ladders to reach the top! :D

What do you use your desk for then? :D

And yes, you can come visit. We'll have races on the rolling ladders around my library. :D :D

LOL! Yay for rolling ladder races! =)

My desk is used for a lot of things, but very rarely writing. A bed really is so much more comfy for that =)

Well, my dream house looks like this: http://yacht-charter.1800sailaway.com/b ... -40-meters

The basic room looks like this: http://www.sfbayadventures.com/images/t ... _salon.jpg

I'd have a laptop with satellite internet, two portholes, slightly cluttered room, a bookshelf in a corner, sailing paraphernalia, and rustic lighting.

My dream house is a four-story old stone house. It has long halls between the rooms and a large courtyard in the center (glass roof) with a waterfall and small jungle inside it. The halls have windows or doorways to the courtyard and there are some balconies. The first floor is devoted to entertaining guests, the second is for household work, the third is living quarters, and the fourth is for mental work and recreation.

I like the jungle courtyard a lot, it's exotic and unique that would make a cool bedroom.

I was in a jungle courtyard once... It was one of those be-still-and-know moments. :)

My dream room/house looks basically like Tomahna in Myst IV; round rooms, bookshelves, dark wood furniture, lots of books, plants scattered here and there, fireplaces that do interesting things, hidden crevices and passageways...I could talk for hours about my dream room. Actually, my sisters and I do that quite regularly. :P

Of course! =D *laughs*

I find it kind of funny that I list things I know I do not under any circumstances want in my house, rather than things I do =P Such things include leather furniture (they just get holes in them... and are cold >.<) and sliding glass doors on showers (pain in the rear to clean D:). lol. Odd, I know.
And definitely want a more open kitchen... I hate when you can't get to anything because someone else is at the counter behind you.

I have considered putting a hallway in the back of my house, if I build one someday. Hardwood, nice and open... simply for sliding up and down in socks. =P

I'd imagine a large house, fitted with loads of long glass windows, so the light can filter in easily. All my books would have special covers so as not to be affected by the sun. I'd have rooms set aside with their own genre of books in, so each genre would have its own room. Then I'd have a room set aside for writing, where there would be a massive selection of music for me to be inspired by whilst writing, and lots of pens and paper. No computer access in the writing room so I wouldn't be tempted onto a place called Holy Worlds. ;) I'd have a room where I could brainstorm, with pencils and crayons and paints, so I can be creative and draw my characters.

Very far fetched, but yea. :)

Yes! :dieshappy: That would be awesome! Particularly the part in spoilers. Well, and the two parts that come afterward. But I think that I'd rather find a place like that than have it built. That way I can find everything, rather than just knowing where it is. ^_^

Well, of course, in my dream home (my submarine :D ), I will have a library with TONS of books. But mainly ones I have read or want to read and know I love. ;) But other books on there, too.... And desks for studying or reading. And book shelves in every one's quarters for books we plan on reading/are reading, and of course we can read in bed, too. Comfy chairs, sofas in the Salon... *nod nod* Desks, pens, pencils, ink, and such for writing. I'll probably have a laptop or two on board... :D

My dream house would be a two-story house, painted a soft blue on the outside. One room would have wall-to-wall bookshelves that are constantly being added to. (And rolling ladders.) One room would have a nice antique desk for writing and a big bay window. Under the window there would be a big window seat, with a small shelf built in underneath. Another room would have big, comfy beanbag chairs and brightly colored carpet. The rest of the floors would be wood. The stairs would have a bannister perfect for sliding down.

(An elevator would be super-cool, but I doubt I need an elevator if I have two stories. )

My dream home is an old stone mansion, surrounded by willow treas and covered in morning glory, rose vines, and English Ivy. It's on an island in the middle of a lake, so it's often surrounded by mist. The only way to move back and forth between it and the main land is by a swan boat, just like the kind the Teleri once built. :)

Inside, it is warm and comfy, and almost the whole house is filled with books. Well-written books, antique books, beautiful, intriquately wrought books, and they're all organized and on the shelves of perfectly carved bookcases.

There is a large kitchen with a fireplace, and plenty of cupboard and counterspace, where I can make all kinds of delicious snacks, and use my cookbooks.

There is a computer system much like Tony Stark's, except it's my own voice instead of that annoying British guy. It helps me keep my mind organized, and all my character fractals, and world building documents separate, as well as do all my research more quickly and efficiently than Google does. (No adds! JOY!)

Three of the walls of my actual writers den/bedroom would be stone, but the other would be deep, swirling, velvety violet, with specks of starlight silver strung across it like the night sky. My bed would have a canopy of translucent scintillating sage green, and it would be in a nook with proper lighting, notebooks and pencils, and a shelf for me to keep books so I can read and write well into the night. There would also be three little beds for my three black cats named Loki, Dusk, and Magyck.

There would be a recording studio, with a REAL Stradivarius violin, and a rose tinted, crystal baby grand piano. There would also be a stereo system so I could pipe all the music I love and am inspired by throughout my house.

Oh...and I would have visiting hours so people who love my books could come and ask my opinions and advice on important issues. *winks*

Looks back on post... Oh, my... Sorry about how LONG that is. :P

Nessa- She's given up the veil, the vows she'd sworn, abandoned every effort to conform. Without a word to anyone she's gone her way alone, a dove escaping back into the storm.

Nolan- And though I don't understand why this happened, I know that I will when I look back someday, and see how you've brought beauty from ashes, and made me as gold purified through the flames.

Azriel- And who do you think you are, running round leaving scars, collecting your jar of hearts, and tearing love apart? You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul, so don't come back to me. Don't come back at all...

My dream house is....big. Like Professor Kirk's house in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It has mahogany paneling everywhere, and a great big old library and a study all to myself with a big old desk for me to write at and a bookshelf that looks like a fireplace and glass cases everywhere with various relics from my world inside them. Yup. :dieshappy:

My dream house is a four-story, old-fashioned house made of brick and wood in the Scottish wilderness. I live on a few dozen acres, and on those ten acres, are various animal establishments. I have many tamed wolves, many tamed wildcats, some tamed bears, and other tamed wild animals, all with their own respective environments.
I am a big author and I have several people I've hired to take care of the animals. They get room and board, as well as a payment every first of the month.

My writing room is a large study. The desk is made of mahogany wood, and I have a high-speed laptop on it, complete with high-speed internet as well (for research and chatting with friends). There are various medieval and fantasy things around the room, such as swords, armor, and weaponry. I have posters of fantasy worlds on the wall, along with fantasy character posters. A few special wolves and cats meander around the room.

I could go on forever and ever, but I won't bore you. XD

My dream house is located in the middle of the Switzerland Alps for the magnificent scenery, but comes with an automatic teleporter to where I live now (can't leave all my friends behind to go to the middle of nowhere!). I have a massive library to encompass most of the house, all fully organized to easily reference and find later, with large windows overlooking the scenery. My writing room has its desk overlooking a large window (again looking at the scenery) and has a laptop complete with high-speed internet, and lots of note paper and mechanical pencils to sketch with. I also have a very detailed map of Ritharael (the world most of my stories are set in) taking up a whole wall in the room, drawn in Tolkienesque style...

Course, to have a large map of Ritharael, I have to finish making it first. ;)

This is my dream house....... with a few changes. ;)

http://www.archivaldesigns.com/housepla ... anid=23909

So, that's basically it, but I it would be a little bit more ranchy, (With horses) and have an outdoor pool. I also probably would get rid of the wine cellars. ^_^ :P It would have a very large library (WITH rolling ladders! ;) ) and a large writing desk, and a huge dry erase board. It would have lots of cozy nooks and crannies with beanbag chairs for reading (and writing!)

That's pretty much it.... my editor instinct may come out later and you will find it added on to. ^_^

I've also done countless of top-view sketches of my dream house. :)

That link isn't working for me, Nessie. :)

Sounds like a lovely house. :D

I think my dream house would be underground. XD Hidden from everyone else, underneath a forest. And the only way to see out of it would be a cliff with huge windows looking down on a river. This way, there's unlimited space to store books and writing supplies. ;)
