That's the only time I realize it. At all other times I'm in an odd stupor somewhat similar to that of Prince Rilian in The Silver Chair.

You take personality quizzes from the perspective of your characters. (I did that today!)

This thread makes me feel so much more normal....

You imagine what would happen if your characters showed up at your church.

You are driven almost crazy by not being able to completely identify the personality of one your characters.

It hurts to write passive sentences like the one above.

Math class makes you want to invent an alphabet because you use x and y every day and it's boring.
You are overjoyed at the chance of rewriting a short story you read as a class, because it doesn't matter how famous the guy is wherever he lives, he still can't write very well.
You ask for a short story assignment early so that its perfect by the time you hand it in.

You have an idea for a tree where the wood just below the bark is edible, so you go out and find a tree (hopefully edible), and pick a young branch to peel the bark off and try it. You do so, then find that alive, green wood that grows on very small branches has a horribly slimy texture and is impossible to chew. Then you get an idea for a medicine made from trees that has a horribly slimy texture.

Saying things like "it's complicated" or "you wouldn't understand" when someone asks you what's on your mind has nothing to do with emotions but rather a bit of world building that would require twenty minutes of explanation all for a stunned look.

You run around reenacting scenes from your story, wielding your little brother's toy sword and fencing with the air. xD

I use both. That is, I do not run through the house with a bread knife. I also use flashlights, letter openers, blender tampers, hurley sticks, pipes, woodwinds (we only have recorders though), and chopping mats. My characters use grass, tufts of fur, dolls, globes of the world, four man tables, books, grains of sand thrown, but they usually use the tips of their fingers.

I have also made a directed energy weapon off of a laundry basket. That is all I am thinking of at the moment.

My brother is walking around with an arrow sticking out of his chest (he found out that if he pulls his shirt right the arrow shoots back out at you). He plays with a sword hilt, with an invisible blade.

 I love reading these and the scary thing is that I can relate to most of them.
Now, let me think...
-When you are having a very in depth conversation with a spider you're about to kill and your brother overhears and thinks you are talking to him. (Happened to me today)
-When instead of saying, "Don't stay up all night" your mom has to tell you, "Be sure that those characters get some sleep." (Also happened tonight)
-(More applicable to girls) After you get your hair cut short you stare in the mirror and bemoan the fact that you can no longer create medieval looking hairstyles.
-You won't wear anything that doesn't have long, flowing sleeves.
-You're jealous of your brother because he has a sword and you don't so you start saving up for a bow.
-You decide to learn Gaelic just so you can base your fictional kingdom's language off of it.

... owning a dragon is common in your mind.

... you spend hours trying to imagine new colors and instead get a headache. (Did this once.)

I have tried that in many ways, but I do not think I ever got a headache, thankfully. Ever thought of other other things? Other numbers, other kinds of dimensions, other ideas, that is, other ideas than anyone has thought?

Sonic the Hedgehog. They have a perpendicular universe that runs across all other universes. They enforce time travel and dimension jumps.

No, food that talks while it's being eaten. Which makes for an annoying conversation. ;)
