Just as it says on the tin, this is the thread where you post pictures of your eyes.

Like fingerprints, each one of us have eyes that are uniquely our own. Eyes that vary in shape, color, and patterns. Even your right eye is different from your left! Although there may be similarities, not even your parents and siblings have the same eyes as you.

In writing, we sometimes tend to describe character's eyes as just blue, brown, or green when there is so much more variety we can use. Are the eyes robin egg blue or blue like the morning right before the sun starts to rise? Are the eyes brown like walnut or cognac? Are the eye patterns shaped like the rings on a cut tree, cracks on dry mud, a star, or a sunflower? Do your villains tend to only have dark eyes while heroes only light? Hopefully, this thread will give you some ideas!

Rules:
No photoshopping patterns or color adjusting your eyes.
Crop out the rest of your face. Only eyes should be in the pictures.
Not required, but it might be fun to describe how your eyes differ from your family members or vice versa.

Help:
The best results I've seen is to use plenty of lighting (natural light seems to work rather well) and take a close up picture of your face. Once you have the picture you can zoom in on the eyes and crop out the face. If you try to zoom in on the eye with the camera lens and take a picture you'll have mixed results and find the eye blurry, at least in my case.

Mac Tutorial:
I took a picture of my face and downloaded it to iPhoto. Dragged picture from iPhoto to desktop. Opened photo on desktop and used "Preview" to zoom in onto the eyes. Held down "Command" + "Shift" + "4" to take an adjustable screenshot of the picture to crop out my face. Picture auto saved to desktop. Done.

My eyes:
My family members all have blue eyes. My sister has the lightest blue almost like the sky at noon, which are solid in pattern, followed by my mother, who has a small dark star pattern around her pupils. One brother has almost grey eyes which are also solid with dark blue edges, followed by another brother with a solid pattern with light streaks and medium blue eyes. The final brother has medium blue eyes with dark streaks toward the edges. My father has dark blue eyes followed by me with the darkest. We both share similar patterns.

Okay, here's the picture I took of one of my eyes last Summer, hope it will work even though it's just one of my eyes.
I hope to take more pictures like this, but it is very hard to do (to tell the truth, this is actually a frame from a close up video, I'm still working on getting a high-res still photo).

I know this isn't the greatest picture, haha, but I have really dark brown eyes...this is when I'm smiling, I tend to look Asian haha. When I'm not smiling they're really big. I take after my dad's family, we all have big brown eyes. As for patterns, well, they're really really dark so you can barely tell between pupils and the rest of my eyes.

This is very fascinating! My mom has what my Daddy calls kaleidoscope eyes, so I know exactly what you mean by patterns in the eyes. :D

Anyways, I shall come back with a picture at some point. :D

This thread is brilliant.

I have hazel eyes, which means that they look different depending on what I'm wearing, things around me... The "patterns" in them change as well, to some extent. I'm still working at getting a high-res photo... :P

Those pictures are pretty clear, good job, it's hard to take pictures of your own eyes! People say that mine are hazel, but I'm not sure...

Cool thread idea!

I'll have to see if I can find, or take maybe, a photo of my eyes.

You're welcome, I had to video them to get that close and get the camera in just the right position! I also had to stand in a certain spot in our backyard.
That's interesting, you're probably all right then, I guess they are hazel. :D I shall have to get outside with my camera again on a sunny day and see if I can get a still picture one of these days...then I'll be back here with another picture or two. ;)

Someone once told me that I had the brownest eyes they'd ever seen. I just know that I have my dad's eyes.

I think I have hazel eyes, but I like to think of them as green.

Picture is mostly clear. And oh, look, you can see my contact lens... and the reflection of the camera in my eye.... and the reflection of my eyelashes. :P Oops. Taking pictures of your eyes is hard. I had to rest the camera lens on the bridge of my nose. Then with one hand hold a mirror behind it so I could see what was on the camera screen. That at least made it a little easier.

It looks fine to me...you it gives us a good idea of your eye color (at least at the time you took the picture). And good job for doing it because I have trouble doing it and I have one of the cameras with a screen the folds out and pivotes so you can take your own picture.

Ooh, this looks like fun! Everyone's got really pretty eyes. :D
This picture is pretty high resolution, so if you want, you should be able to enlarge it and see better all the weird colors and effects in my eye. :dieshappy:

I couldn't decide ... my eyes look so different in different lighting, so I just compiled three pictures.

My mom and my younger brother - both with fair complexions - have blue eyes. My sister, my dad, and my other brother - all with dark complexions - all have hazel/brown eyes. I have a light complexion and kind of light blueish, grayish eyes with a dark ring around the outside and a gold ring around the pupil. They look lighter or darker depending on what kind of shirt I'm wearing. ^_^

How so? It's a recessive gene, so the gene for green eyes would overrule it, for example.

@Roager: Your eyes have incredible star bursts!

@Lycanis: Your eyes remind me of a planet. I've never seen such light hazel eyes. : )

@Frystar: Dark eyes are really cool. I used to want dark eyes to match my hair color, but I got over it as I aged.

@Shawn: That's really neat how you have blue/grey eyes with a copper ring around your pupil!

@Aldara: Dark eyes are nice. ^^ Yours are a nice chocolate brown. *loves chocolate*

@Lady Ness: Nessy, dear, your eyes are a lovely shade of olive! (The mascara and eyeliner really makes them pop.)

@Azlyn: Your eyes are really interesting. Like a coppery-brown. :D

@Shorty: You and Roager have awesome star bursts going on there.

@Lady E: You're right, they do change in different lighting. They're really deep blue in the natural lighting picture! Wow!

@Luke: I agree, they appear to be almost grey/green in your picture. Nice shades.

~

Here's a couple pictures of mine (natural & artificial light).

About my family's eyes:

My dad and I share the same coloring and visa versa with my mom and brother. My eyes are slight different than my dad's hazel eyes. They are amber/hazel in color. Like Lady E's, my eyes change color in different lighting as well. They've been pointed out as copper, gold, hazel, and light brown.

My mom has grey/blue eyes as well as my brother but his are more blue.

I like eyeballs.

Used to be the only reliable way I could spot an actor I'd seen before was the eyes. They're the first physical feature I notice about someone. I know several people who the stupid world won't consider 'pretty' but they've got magnificent eyes. ^_^ And really, they're beautiful all through. Most people are.

That's a good point, everyone is beautiful in some way because God makes beautiful things and God made us.

Yes, eyes are amazing to look at and to think about.

I agree with you, Matt. I think everyone is beautiful in their own unique way, and I love eyes. They remind me of Darwin's quote, actually: "The human eye scares me". For the man who built the basis of the evolution belief to say such a thing, he must not have been able to come up with a theory to explain away the intricate beauty of our eyes. :D

Thank-you! Coppery-brown is a good way to describe the ring around the middle. :D I want to get a really good picture of them, perhaps when I get my other camera fired up.

Your eyes are so pretty! Definitely more amber then anything else.

In my family, all the girls have hazel and all the guys have blue.

Eyes are beautiful. Their intricacy never ceases to amaze me. :)

My whole family has blue eyes, but some of us have a little bit of gold around the middle, whilst others' are brighter. Maybe someday I'll get a picture of mine...

Ooh, this looks like fun. I'll have to try it sometime.

I've always felt that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Your eyes are the most expressive part of you, they're what reflect your personality and your character. I find that in my writing, especially, my characters communicate emotions with their eyes. There is just something stunning about the human eye; the more beautiful it is, the more beautiful you are inside.

And since that's the case, you've all got lovely souls. :D

You should post a picture, Ciela! :D Although, I've been fortunate enough to see your eyes IRL. ;)

@Shorty: You made me laugh and I had to share that with my mom proclaiming, "I have tree eyes!" (In the most complimentary way, of course.) :D I love the comparison especially because I love nature. ^^

@Bushmaid: Thank you. :3

@Lycanis: Thanks. I've always enjoyed taking photos of my eyes. It takes a couple shots to get it just right, but the detail you can capture is worth it.

@Azlyn: Thank you very much.

Oh, Elly! Your eyes are really neat. What color do you describe them to be? They appear a mixture of grey/blue/sea green to me.

I visited a friend up north of Tacoma yesterday and today. Since I'm not very visual, I have trouble remembering faces clearly. I have pictures from the last time we hung out, but seeing her again in person is like getting slapped in the face all over again with a sort of beauty that you just have to see in person. She has stunning, very dark eyes. Unfortunately I don't have a clear picture that's close up enough, but I don't think any picture could do her justice anyway.

@Calen: I usually describe them as green, even though they have a few different shades in them. :D

The title of this thread inspired a song that I finally finished. Probably because each word in the title is capitalized, like a song title...

I have a better picture of my eyes to put up when I get a chance... :D

I have one too, except I can't get the patterns to come out very clearly in the photo.

I looked through my pictures to see if there was one with clear eyes, but there weren't.... I might see if I can get one though. :) It was so neat going through the thread seeing everyone's eyes.
