The Sunday school class that me and my family are going to, is covering Predestination, and I wanted to know, before I share my opinion on it, What is yours?

I'm (hopefully) not going to get sucked into any debate, but I believe in it, it just doesn't make sense any other way to me. :)

"Under snow and under stone
Deep within the icy mountain's bone
Burns the fire of dragons breath
Harbors age and fire and death

They who would the dragons seek
Cannot afford to be weak
For they will have to travel far
Under the clouds and under star

Do not shrink at sight of mountains' peek
Nor shudder at snow and sleet
Push on with eyes alight and step fast
Draw your sword and set your eyes unto the west

Hidden in the cold, hard, forbidding rock
Is a door as old as key or lock
Amid the snowy, arching pines
That only true of heart can find"

*Smiles* You know I disagree with you on this, Nessie. ;) But I won't discuss it, sorry. It too often turns into a debate, and we don't allow those here; so I try to stay away from conversations about this subject. :D

I'm a compatibilist. I believe in free will and predestination, not in a balance or compromise between the two, but rather full free will and full predestination, under my definition of "free will" (which obviously is not the same as that of those who disagree). An analogy I often use is an author and his characters. Did Tolkien decide that Frodo would go to Mt. Doom or did Frodo decide to go to Mt. Doom? Well, they both did. It's not a compromise between the two positions, as if the decision belonged half to Tolkien and half to Frodo; no, the decision belongs fully to both Tolkien and Frodo.

This sort of seemingly unmathematical logic is not uncommon in Christian theology, by the way; cf. Trinity, hypostatic union.

I agree and have thought of that same analogy.

First off, I'm very proud of you all for handling this maturely and not plunging into a debate. But Jay has asked in the past that Calvinism type discussions be kept out of the forums. I have to agree with him because these conversations can very easily turn into ugly things. So, in honor of his wishes, I'm locking this thread and will have the mods archive it in a couple of days.

Feel free to continue this in pm, though. :D And again, reading how yall conducted yourselves throughout this made me a proud little Council Member. *glows* :dieshappy:

I'm sorry for posting when I'm not suppose to, but I had no idea that debating was not allowed on HolyWorlds, I am sincerely sorry!
