In the Bible, the prophet Ezekiel has a vision of a valley filled with dry bones that are reanimated and brought to life by a breath from God. I'm thinking the HW blog could use a similar re-vitalization. At the moment, we've only a handful of posts from a handful of people. We need members who are willing to step up and help contribute material to keep the blog going. I know I personally found the forum only after I found the blog via google. If we could keep a stream of posts and articles moving through the blog, it might just attract attention to other aspects of the site. But in order to do this, we need people to write the posts. Anyone out there willing to step up to the plate and help us out with this one?

Actually Seer, I felt the same thing. I PM'd Jay this morning and have sent over a rough draft mid afternoon. I know (from reading his posts) that Jay feels passionate about the blog being utilized just as much as the forum. I think it is a great idea and hope to contribute blog worthy posts in the near future.

Well, what sort of subject matter is appropriate? Short stories? Posts about theoretical concepts of writing. Posts about our own writing process? I guess I could do a few. I'm just leery to commit fully to another time-grabber (not that time-grabbers are bad but I have a lot of them). But I'll do my best to help out. :D

Totally understandable. Every little bit helps. The idea is for lots of members to contribute so that the burden doesn't fall on a few number of people. Any help you could offer would be much appreciated.

I think this is a great point. If everyone adds a little then it won't be a burden that falls on only a couple of people (mainly two guys). The blog should be fun you guys! Just take the energy that is very prevalent here on the Forum and channel it into an essay/article form. Instead of addressing a subject to one person change it so that it is addressing anyone.

I understand the time grabber concern. That's why we have to help lift this burden off of Jay and the few others who have tried to keep the blog going. Look at some of the amazing threads we’ve created (are dragons evil, subjects concerning magic, how to address God in fantasy). This is the kind of stuff we should be putting on the blog in a post format.

I know I’m new, so I don’t have much say, but I think we could come up with some really good stuff even if we just dusted off some of our old threads and compiled the info from everybody into an essay. Just a thought.

Hm. How to offer to help with a blog I don't read and barely knew existed.

I suppose I could take my posts on bindings and land-law and rework them into something that... makes sense. That's what you're looking for write? Fantasy related articles of interest?

Here's an earlier answer on subject matter

Your posts on land-law and bindings (I actually read about bindings in a 19th century occultic book called The Magus, the other day and thought, "Hey! Janin talked about this!") would be perfect ones to rework for the blog.

Okay, cool. I love that topic, so I don't mind writing on it more, even though getting me to write non-fiction is usually a difficult and dangerous task. :D

What kind of length are you looking for?

Any length. I mean, not like super-short. But other than that, make them as long as they need to be.

I have my own blog and I post there semi-frequently, but I don't have time to compose blog posts for two at once. On my blog I post short/serial fiction, writing techniques, et cetera. I wondered if it would be okay to take things from my blog, post them here for revision, and then post them on the HW blog. Also I'm writing for eruheran's Into The Book and I am doing some fantasy book reviews -- would it be appropriate to post those on the HW blog too?

I have no problem with you recycling your reviews from Into The Book, but ask Jay about recycling your blog posts.

I would discourage cross posting. It can lower SEO, and I want more original work on the blog.

But taking forum posts and redoing them for the blog is encouraged.

Drat. My forum posts are usually short, sporadic and have little to do with fantasy in general and more to do with my own story.

*raises eyebrows* SEO?

Hey Jay, I was just going to ask you really quickly...someone suggested that it would be a possibility for me to do an open-world thing like you do on your blog...would you want that on the blog or would you prefer not? Enderion's gotten pretty developed (at least in my head) so I wouldn't mind doing something like that, if it's all right with you. If not, that's OK too. :)

I wouldn't mind at all. :) I need to catch up on mine, haha. But I was hoping when I did it that others would want to do it too. :)

Do you have a world map? Just post that with an explanation and intro as a thread in the submissions room.

Actually, would it be all right if I just did one continent for now? It's the only one that's developed substantially on paper. However, it might be more beneficial to my developing if I did the whole thing. ;) I'll get something up in Submissions, though.
