Monta Tervedis!

I'm not sure if this should go here in this forum or over in cultures, because this isn't really a separate race, but rather a sinister order of elves. Like the Dark Friends in the Wheel of Time series, the Dark Elves are regular elves who serve the enemy. Unlike the goblins, kudaren, or trolls, most of these elves can be redeemed. First, because they have not been cursed for willingly turning their backs on the Maker, and second because most of them have been deceived into following the enemy, thinking they are serving their Maker. They have been convinced that all who serve the one true God are actually following the enemy, and they earnestly seek to add more to their number because they honestly believe the lies they have been told. The leaders of the Dark Elves do know the truth, however, and they are doomed to die with their master.

In the (planned) fourth and fifth books one of the main characters will have a fiance who is a dark elf, and in the fifth book she will come back to the light and learn of her mistake.

I also have planned a spin-off series of the current one I am working on where Esílis has a half brother who is a half-elf and a dark elf, more thoughts on that series idea will come when I have more ideas solidified on paper.

I'm glad to be back on the forums, please let me know your questions, thoughts and suggestions on this most recent idea of mine (I know you have some).

They sound neat! Good job with making them.

How does their culture differ from the regular elves? At all? Do they wear different clothing, eat different food, etc?

I am thinking of giving them a tattoo, something high on the shoulder, which would not normally be seen due to the elves' strict modesty requirements, but not sure what it would look like. I think it will be the insignia of the enemy, but I haven't taken the time to develop it something like a black flame.

Do they have any specialized fighting techniques or weapons to make them more dangerous to the other elves?
Do they have any power that the bad guy has given them that they think is a gift from the creator?

That sounds neat! A tattoo of sorts would also be cool. Something like what you have written in small letter sound interesting. And probably not too hard to design. Take for an example the Fire Nation Emblem from Avatar, The Last Airbender:



With these type of things, less is more for emblems like that. Just throwing that out there.

So, strangely enough I have a similar group of elves, called Ashelves. In the same way, my elves began when one elf was deceived and a group of elves broke off. Mine were tied in bondage to the evil one through Clethdyr, or some sort of demon (not totally developed yet). They also are redeemable, but there's a process through which that occurs which I could expound upon further under a different topic.
How exactly do they become redeemed? And do they keep getting deceived or are they somehow in some sort of strong (but not unbreakable) bondage?

I haven't had a lot of time to work on them, I think they fight using the same techniques, but maybe with a few extra tricks thrown in. They'd probably be less averse to fighting dirty. As far as special powers, they may be able to use magic, which in my book is essentially control over demonic forces. Perhaps to keep them from realizing they are serving the enemy the demons are disguised as angels.

The Dark flame looks really cool, I will have to toy with sketching the tattoo.



They become redeemed when they realize they are not serving the one true God. I suspect that one deceived would always have doubts as to whether or not they have truly turned to the correct side or if they have left the correct side. But it is not a permanent bondage.

Well, that's cool, I especially like that they are simply deceived, most of them anyway, and want to serve God when they find out they haven't been.
