Okay, so I was skimming through the I&C list, and I accidentally read 'A very Bushy birthday' as 'A very Busty birthday'.

It's a technically the word for an inexperienced golfer, but my definition is more along the lines of something "silly" or "nutty" when referring to people who say flattering things.


Ha! When I first read it I thought it said "A very Busy birthday"!

Hehe. That word gets used a lot around the house.

Dictionary Definition: Duffer: a plodding, clumsy, incompetent person.




I don't think Bushy quite meant it like that, though.

When it comes to golfing, I'd be a duffer. My average drive length is about fifteen feet.

Yep! (And they still were called the "Duffers" until they got that confused with "monopods" and came up with "Dufflepuds" after the Dawn Treader's visit.) With good reason; "duffer" and "incompetent" are reasonable (if not entirely kind) descriptions of someone who persistently thinks that planting boiled potatoes, or washing dishes before eating, saves time.
