The jackalopes that roam Rantis come in three varieties:

Black-tail Jack- The fastest of the jackalopes, as well as the tastiest. Hard to catch due to their jackrabbit-likeness. They have a tan or brown pelt dappled with black patches. Being about 25 inches in length from head to the tip of the tail, their horns are about half a foot long. The horns themselves do not branch. Instead, they crop up from one single beam. They thrive on the Gryphon plains and other parts of Nebey. A staple food as much as fish for the Valloians who inhabit the area.

Snow Jack- The counter-part of a snowshoe hare. Being stockier and with small ears, it lives in the northern parts of Rantis, particularly in Yanara and parts of Skatros Territory. They are gray-brown during warm months but white during winter months. Favorite prey of soluhi when seals are scarce. 20 inches in length. The horns are the same design, but tend to be small in size.

Cotton Jack- By far the most plentiful of the jackalopes. The meat is... tolerable. A bit gamy if you don't like that sort of thing. I swear, there isn't a single place they haven't taken over. o.e They live everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Even in the Dori deserts. 18 inches in length. Their coloring is a gray-brown reddish nape and white tail.

So these are rabbits (or hares)? They sound cool, I'm tired, so I may have missed it if you mentioned this, but how fast can they go? Can they outrun any natural predators?

Eh... Lemme spell it out for ya...

The black-tail is capable of reaching speeds of 50 mph, and can dart back and forth from raptors (and Valloians) that try to catch them. Some of their predators would be the prairie bear, your average raptor (bird of prey), and the rattlesnake, which are a tad bigger in this world.

The snow jack doesn't run as fast, but is much more flexible in running, without slowing its gait. It does so to evade soluhi, which are ambush predators.

The cotton jack is more of a bunny. :P Soft and fairly easy to catch, but will breed like cockroaches under a rock.

By the way... What's the difference between a hare and a rabbit? :x :x

Ok, cool, thanks!

Um, hares are more lanky, they almost look a little kangarooish (without a long tail). Don't be embarrassed about not knowing! I hear that is a common ailment. ;)

Here's a picture of a rabbit:

Ooh, Jackalopes! :dieshappy: *Whispers* Did you get this from Pixar's short film Boundin'? ;)

I like them, Birdie. :D It looks like you've developed them a good bit - which is more than I can say about some of my own creatures.

To answer your question Wolf, the cotton jack is actually a bunny while the other two are hares.

No, but I won't edit your post for fear of deleting it....

Actually, the reason I don't edit that sort of thing is 'cause I can tell someone needed to invent a word to get their point across.

Oh! I forgot! The rabbit has really soft fur so it's main purpose in any society is the plush fur. >w<
