I have several drinks that pop up during the course of my books. Some of them have names, others do not.
For example, Eniya, who is a healer, is constantly pouring a tonic down Tierin's throat, after he has been poisoned by a shahard dart. She also gives medicinal liquids to others during the course of the three books. Eniya also has medicinal drinks that can help put energy back into your body, kind of like a shot of sugar, but eventually you will crash from it.
In the first book we are introduced to typical wine, Tierin's family dabbling in the vintner business. The wine shows up in several places, and in the beginning of my third book we are introduced to Cider, aged and fresh.
My favorite drink in my books, though, is my firewater. It is very potent, the smell of the beverage burns Airianna's nose, in fact. It is highly flammable and often used by the Fire Breathing Fools in the festivals.
Here is an excerpt where wine is depicted in my story:
Quote:
She had to think, but her mind went blank. The question had caught her completely off guard. She needed a diversion- a distraction- something to allow her to collect herself.
Her tongue went dry. Quickly, she grabbed her cup and began to down the goblet. Liquid shards of glass felt like they were lacerating her throat as she gulped the red brew. The drink burned her tongue and continued to her stomach. Shock hit her in the chest as she felt the drink’s power stir inside her, looking for a way out. Grabbing her napkin she began to cough, spewing the acidic concoction. She closed her eyes, feeling pressure against her temples.
Wine. It had to be wine. She had never tasted anything so awful. Her childhood curiosities had been satisfied. She never wanted to taste the stuff again.
