Ok, I suppose I can't be sure that this is correct, but I am pretty sure that I have subscribed to each topic I've started/posted on (sometimes from the checkbox before hitting 'submit', other times from the 'subscribe topic' button in the top left...but on the "news of the king" thread, I was subscribed and got notifications, and then suddenly stopped getting notifications and went back to it and there were like eight pages of posts. And I'm pretty sure I resubscribed and was automatically unsubscribed again.
This has happened on other topics as well so...I'm pretty sure I'm not delusional about hitting the subscribe button/checkbox....

If you don't visit the thread, then you won't be notified again until you visit it. So if you subscribed to the thread, got a notification but didn't bother to go and look at the thread, then you will not get another until you visit the thread again. Maybe this is what happened?

I have had similar things happen, I suppose, but it actually goes like "(insert topic) reply notification (insert number of emails that are notifying me of the same topic)" so I do sometimes get multiple ones for the same thing.
Plus, in this case I simply didn't get any notifications, I didn't go to the topic for awhile because I never got an email saying there had been activity there.
