I'm Mennonite: a traditionally German branch of Anabaptists. Look up Menno Simmons.
A joke among us is that you can't have a gathering without food. We have a lot of Potlucks at our church, including the traditional paska - Easter bread.
There's a joke about Mennonite names... *goes off to look up joke that nobody ever gets* Be right back.

Actually, we haven't been able to find a good, like-minded church in our area for years. *sigh* So none, I guess.

I go to a Presbyterian church. But I'm really more of a Messianic.

We don't have a home-church presently. (Not for the past 6 years anyways) We tend to do a lot of church hopping, so my family considers ourselves "non-denominational" or rather just people of Faith. : )

I'm currently a member of a PCA church, but I sort of consider myself... multidenominational? I grew up attending a Bible church, I went to a Baptist college, a Lutheran elementary school, and Presbyterian high school. I've said for years that I'm a Biblebaptiluthbyterian. My husband's more Luthadox (Lutheran and Greek Orthodox). We figure the key thing is to attend a bible-teaching church, even if there are some points of doctrine with which we're not quite in synch.

You can only put 10 options in a poll...

Independent Baptist (or Immerser, if people knew how to translate the Bible properly). We were Mennonites for ten years of my life, but we were "rogue" Mennonites. ;)

Baptist is what we fit into most. Or completely, really.
God bless,
Crushmaster.

I'm Evangelical. My church personally has a Reformed Baptist outlooks, while I hold Calvary Chapel views. But both still count as Evangelical, so I stick with that.

My family is non-denominational. :D We like to call ourselves 'Christians'. ;) However we are going to an Assemblies of God church at the moment, and the message we receive there is very good, full of the Holy Spirit. Although if I had to pick a church that mirrored my family's beliefs the best, it would be the United Church of God (UCG, not very well known) or similar to Seventh Day Adventists (which wasn't an option on the poll). There are several SDA views we don't apply to our lives though. (such as, being vegetarian)

*doesn't know whether to choose non-denominational or none*

We've been home churching for as long as my memory goes back, but when hard pressed for a denomination I'll tell you that I come from a Baptist background. We're not currently going to church at all lately, simply because we can't find any like-minded people who will meet with us. (Long story, lots of drama... I do strangely enjoying telling people who, when seeing my long hair, skirts, and ask what church I go to find out that "I don't go to church." Like, God doesn't live in a church. That's astonishing to some people I've met... sorry. Rant. :P)

We also have home church, Vanya; and it makes me laugh the way people say 'you mean you don't go to a church', and I explain each time....Well we are the church, since when was the church a building. :)
So yea, we fellowship in the home. I just say I'm a born again Christian. We have never found a church to settle in for a while now, there seem to be very few sound ones in England anymore.

Yup, I had trouble narrowing it down to a good 10...whatever I left out I knew I'd get picked on. :/

We're Alliance, but our belief system fits better with the Sovereign Grace churches.

I love statistical stuff like this, it's fun to see what elements seem to tie in to our writerly habits. The biggest pattern I've seen over the course of these threads though is that we're all different. Not just as writers, but in many, many aspects we stand out. As Christians, as students, being crazy fantasy writers isn't the only thing that sets us apart. Does that mean anything? I have no idea.

I'd never heard of Alliance before just now, the first thing that popped into my head was the Alliance of Firefly(the TV show) ;)

I go to a Bible church. Somewhat close to Baptist, conservative, Dispensational.

I go to an Independent Fundamental Baptist church, meaning, they aren't part of the American Baptist Association (ABA). They're pretty conservative (the pastor's wife, daughter, and daughter-in-laws only wear skirts & dresses, they only listen to bluegrass and hymns, no contemporary Christian music or anything).

Um, Elanhil, I don't think your poll is really representative of mainstream churches in the US :P Probably both Alliance and Sovereign Grace should be under other.

At any rate, I be Christian and Missionary Alliance :D

Our church calls itself a Southern Baptist church, but we act nothing like any Baptist church I've ever seen. (Which isn't many - we went to a non-denominational church for years then moved to this one, but I've been to Bell Shoals Baptist a few times) That being said, I wouldn't want us to act like anything different because I love my church :dieshappy:

I am a Reformed Baptist. That basically means we immerse believers who have made their own confession of Christ, and we believe in the absolute sovereignty of God (as in, He is in control of everything---absolutely). As well as a couple other things.
So, you could call me a "Calvinist", but I'd prefer to be labeled as a "Bible Believing Christian". ;)

My father is one of the elders in our tiny church. Unlike many Reformed Baptist churches, we have our own little building. It's more than a hundred years old, with a bell tower. :D

I'm a proud member of a non-denominational church plant (well, it's over 350 now...) that's roughly aligned with maybe Sovereign Grace, dashes of reformed and semi-Baptist/Immerser, and a touch of charismatic. It's a wonderful blend of people from (I believe) every continent save Antarctica, and our pastor preaches straight from the Bible every week. Praise God for such a wonderful family in Christ :D

I am the proud (recently adopted) child of a Christian Church that is strongly and conservatively rooted in faith in the Lord. That is all the distinction I ever need make.

In saying this I mean no offense to any denomination and I will start no arguments here. If you don't believe every word of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation that is quite none of my business but you can speak with my Manager.

We've bounced around from church to church a bit but finally settled at my mom's family's Baptist church (GARBC) which we generally agree with. :)

(Previous churches included Mennonite (I am not sure what type - not horse & buggy, but still fairly conservative), non-denominational-which-looked-kinda-like-Baptist, Evangelical Free, and Church of Christ-which-might-also-be-non-denominational)

And yes, when we were at the Mennonite church, we were the rogue ones too. XD Didn't agree with the dress code or many other details, which is why we left after a summer for the Baptist church about two years ago. And I can't imagine going back.

I have baptist views and beliefs, but our church is almost non-denominational. We just follow everything right from the word, we ain't a normal southern baptist church...

Our church isn't a really conservative church either. *wonders what they mean by rogue Mennonite* We're a Mennonite Brethren church. I wonder if my post earlier made you think of me with my hair all done up in a dress. I own one skirt and one dress.
I do, however, know some traditional Mennonites. They're in my driver's ed class, and they're super nice.

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

I'm the one that voted 'Sovereign Grace', we are a really small church plant (that is a few years old now), and we are finding that in order to survive we have been bonding a lot more than in any other church.
The church we go to is reformed, a lot of our members are Calvinist, but, like Shinja, I prefer just to be called a Christian (I'm not completely familiar with Calvinism anyway, I just know that if I had anything to do with my own salvation I wouldn't be saved so it makes sense that God is Sovereign over that, as with everything else). We are also slightly charismatic (there are people that will, with our Pastor's permission, share scripture between songs when we sing, many of us raise our hands during singing, though I haven't gotten completely comfortable doing that yet, we aren't afraid to clap during singing, and sometimes we all engulf someone in prayer, laying hands on them), but we keep everything in an orderly manner.
The church we used to go to was a flop as far as spiritual growth, the one we go to now has been the polar opposite of that!

The raising hands and clapping sound like what we do at our church.

High school retreats though, uh, it's more of a worship rock contest with people jumping and singing really loud and stuff.

I was baptized Anglican and have been attending Anglican churches for most of my life. I don't think Anglicanism holds an official position on the Calvinism front, although we do make use of the 39 Articles, which show a Calvinist influence. I think my own position is probably closer to what people call "Arminian" (I believe that God's grace is necessary for salvation, but that a person must respond to it), but I would hesitate to fully adopt the label, since the term carries different sorts of baggage to different Christians.

My dad is the pastor of a basically non-denominational church, which goes under the title Baptist Church. Since we're one of three English speaking churches on the island, we get people from lots of differant backgrounds and things, because there aren't many choices.

EDIT: I wouldn't say that our church is conservative really, we have drums and an electric guitar and bass in our praise team.

I was wondering what was meant when y'all were referring to "charismatic". :D Our church is like that. I clap and raise my hands with everyone during praise and worship time. At prayer/music nights - which are a lot more relaxed - some people dance. :D But then, I don't think AOG churches are called conservative to begin with. ;)

My family doesn't really come under any one denomination because our doctrinal views are so different and varied to any single one. (So even if we were looking for a church that we would fit in exactly, we wouldn't find one. :P) The thing we love most about the AOG though is that all the ones we have been to, there is such an active energy and passion in them that is alive, not passive. :)

Same, Camerie. :D We have a full band of drums, electric/acoustic/bass guitars, and keyboard.

Yup. We've got a full band as well, and a small orchestra on special occasions.
