Soon! Now that the poetry book is finished we're going to turn our attention to this. :D

I can play piano, but I can't compose... so if you can get me sheet music, I can practice it. I should be able to record it and get it back to you, but I'm not completely sure...

And I'm sure there are more talented pianists on here who would be willing to help. ;)

If there's anything I could do to help, let me know! There's a poem I started that sounds like a marching song if you need any lyrics. When it comes to music I'm not much help though. *shrugs* Unless you need encouragement?

I'm still willing to play a couple pieces on the piano! :D

I have a drum track for a song I started called "War". The tempo is really fast, but slowed down it sounds like it would be fitting for a marching type song.

Before starting this album, there are a few things we need to consider:

1. What is the overall tone of the album? Will it be melancholic, happy, [insert random emotion here], or a mixture? (If the answer is a mixture, songs need to be layed out in a structural pattern)

2. What genre is this going to sound like? Even if conventional genres don't cover this, how would we describe it? Will it be simplistic relaxing background songs, or epic Lord-of-the-Rings-Soundtrack-esque symphonies, or both?

3. How much post-production is it going to have? Any effects on the vocals? Chances are we will need some sort of special effect, especially if recording is done by different people, to fit all the instruments together.

All right, folks. We have a launch date. On March 3rd, we'll be opening up a subforum so we can officially begin work on the Music Project. We're working on getting the poetry book wrapped up so we can focus our attention on this project. So keep your questions in mind so we can begin brainstorming like crazy next month! :D

I'm kind of in that boat too, Luke. But it would be cool if you could find something to help with this. We could find something for you to do which wouldn't require too much of your time or effort.

That's actually fairly common when it comes to recording, so I've found, so we could definitely do that, if we used a metronome. :D

*Pokes* So, how are we doing with this? Are we just waiting for the song nominations?

It was said somewhere in here, maybe more then just the first post (I didn't read the whole thread to find out) something about putting poetry to music. Where is that going? How is it going? Do we need poets and musicians to work together to put poems to music?

*raises hand* Are we just doing fantasy/scifi styled songs, or are we tossing anything and everything in there?

Personally, I think it would be neater if the songs reflected one of the personalities of the forum . . . what if we started with a fantasy album, did a scifi album next, and finished with a historical album?
*is probably getting waaaay ahead of herself*

Anyway, I'll email Evening and see if we can finish that one song . . . unless she's involved in another project. Thanks for reviving the project! :D

I think we are focusing on fantasy this time. *Looks to Vanya for clarification* In the future we have plans for a sci-fi album, and then way, way in the future it'd be neat to do a historical one. :D

*nods* Azlyn is correct. This is specifically for Fantasy themed music.

What makes it fantasy themed? Either the lyrics, the instrumentation, or just the title. A piano solo could could classical or fantastical depending on if we called it "A Country Dance" or "Dragon Flight."

The important thing is that it be original, and that it be written by an HWer. We talked about setting poetry to music, since many HWers songs are just that, but we haven't decided if we need to do that or not... I'd rather see songs with music added mentioned here for now. Don't be shy! Just throw them out! We're looking for both lyrical and instrumental songs. If you know of a song on HW that you like, mention it. Just because we name it here doesn't mean we're automatically going to include it, so don't worry about stepping on the composer's toes, because he/she can always come in and protest. We'll be fussing with getting permission later. Right now we just need to know who we're getting permission from in the first place. :D

OKay, Vanya. *Follows instructions* I like Eve's Ice Dance song quite a bit. ^_^ Okay, more then just a bit. ^_^ ^_^

Tomorrow I'll take a poke around in the Arts Guild to see what I can find/poke people about unfinished songs. :D

Aww, thank you, Azlyn! ^_^ I've been very bad, not having finished the final recording by now...I'm going to see about recording it at my teacher's studio. Anyhow, I'm sticking it at the top of my project priority list.

I'm willing to nominate The Slave's Cry. Aspenae set music to it; you'll have to whack her on that. :D

And I'm hoping to figure something out for "I Run." Notating music is something that I can't do until after school is out, I'm afraid. But that will be soon...

Location: No; where is YOUR location?
Questions:

1. Where are we, in the completion of this project?
2. Do our songs have to have lyrics?
3. Where are everyone's songs?
4. Where, if we have our songs done, do we post them?

I'm not really sure how to quantify this...we are still in the song-gathering stage.

No, they do not. They can be lyrical or instrumental.

In the Song Nominations thread. If you or a HWer you know has written a song you think should be on the CD, post its title there and link to any pertinent information (like if the song has a thread in the Poetry or Arts Guild room). Don't discuss the nominated songs on that thread, though.

Just for general info, I have access to a recording studio, if anyone is interested. I'm working on song lyrics, at the moment, which is shocking to me, so I'm going to try and get together with someone at some point to do the music for it...

The Rainbow in the Storm- My Blog

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

Works in progress:

The Diegosian Mark, 115,600 words (Preparing for Publication)
The Diegosian Rider, 121,400 words (Finished)
The Diegosian Warrior, 15,000 (In Progress)

Sounds like a great idea. I've composed a number of melodies (non-lyrical) that might fill the bill. I'll have to see about getting some of those written down.

Question: do you want the actual music being played, the score, both?

I wrote lyrics last night if anybody wants to play with a tune for them, and if you need something...
I'll post them in the Fireside and link it.
Also, we already have a lullaby, so you might not want another, even if mine is nothing like Seer's.

Here. Link:
