I agree 100%... the Joker just creeps me out :o

My villain is very crafty, sly and rude ;)

Yeah the Joker is way out there, let's say. He really, quite complex if you think about it. And of course, I'm talking the Joker from The Dark Knight. Man, I love those movies!

Oooh, the Joker.. If there ever was a competition for being the most sly, psychopathic villian, I think he wins hands down. :D

I haven't really developed many of my villians but they tend to smart, refined, sophisticated, cunning, and ruthless. They also have a strange fondness for something, from rum to polo. My most developd would actually be my pirate villian from my pirate hunter books, Wilhelm Blodrayne.

In regards to the Joker conversation, he is evil, and creepy, but also ironic - not funny, ironic. My main villain is Luphsaff, Lord of the Night, he is a Satan character and he is sly, evil, completely sadistic, but tricky. He acts avuncular towards my MC in an attempt to deceive him, and bring him to his side. My other main villain is a Sorcerer, unnamed as of yet, who serves Lord Luphsaff and acts as his general. He is the one that my MC sees as the villain for the first half of the story, he is also sadistic, menacing and sold out to evil, he has sort of sold his soul to get his power.

I hated the joker. And not in a good way either. Villains that creepy creep me out too much. Way too much. And I have met people who think he's cool, that's the "weird pleasure" thing you were talking about I guess. *shivers*

I like sympathetic villains. The more pitiful yet evil a villain is the better I like it. I often have bad guys who were former good guys, or somehow related to the good guy or something. I like pure evil guys more as a secondary or comic type. If they're pure evil they're not a real threat, more of a diversion.
*runs mentally through my seven novels and tries to remember all the villains*

For me, the eviller the better. Why? So you don't feel guilty about cheering their death.

So what do you guys think about bad guys who are so evil you just wish they were real so you could kill them? Or something along those lines :P
I applaud anyone who can write a character like that, really. I can't stand when a character is THAT evil, yet I would rather them be utterly evil than a pansy.
Or, do you prefer bad guys that you kind of like, and wish they would leave their evil ways so you wouldn't feel guilty liking them?

Just a couple random questions I happened to think of...

Oh. And have any of you ever wrote an evil character who you just couldn't wait to kill off?

I'd LOVE to kill Merashath, only I'm gonna have to make the world end for that to happen... He's sort of invincible from a curse. Maybe I could make him be disabled somehow by the end, when the Christ-figure defeats him. :)

Um... none that I can think of.
But I know all about villains you wish would leave their evil ways so you wouldn't feel guilty about liking them. That ties in with the wishing the bad guys would win syndrome... I get that a lot reading Redwall. Because in the red wall books the bad guys are bad and the good guys are good and everyone is born that way and there's nothing you can do about it, and the bad guys are always so miserable!!!

Two-word post king strikes again ;)

I don't like stories where you cheer for the villain, it makes me wish the author would re-write it, because the story-line is great, cheering for the villain makes you feel guilty, as Janin said.

What I like in the Redwall books is the bumbling lieutenants...they always crack me up because they have names like Rinknose, Snogjaw, or Ripfang or something. :) But I think the best name is the one for the fox in Mattimeo. But now I can't remember it now. I also like the names of the guosim. . . but I'll stop being geeky and let y'all continue with your villain talk. :D

The fox in Mattimeo was originally known as Chickenhound then changed his name to Slagar the Cruel. I can't blame the guy for changing names. ;)

I have a bad guy who has a grudge against my MC (unknown at this time), and there is also this bad guy who is sort of a mastermind. The second isn't dealing directly with my MC right now, but he will end up attacking the good guy's side, which my MC will probably end up on. I am not exactly sure how to word this, so I hope I was not completely unintelligible.

It is funny how people are looking forward to getting rid of their villains because they are so evil. I like it when the good guys win. It is interesting, however, when a bad guy keeps showing up again and again (and everything was part of an elaborate, almost unreal scheme) when you think he is gone. (Dr. Blaagard for example, all you other Adventures In Odyssey fans)

He is this brilliant mastermind. There is this whole Saga about him called The Blaagard Saga that is going to be released next year. The saga it self is pretty complex... Here is what an AIO fan website had to say about him:

Regis Blackgaard, often referenced with his proper title as Dr. Regis Blackgaard or less formally Blackgaard, is the perennial villain of Adventures in Odyssey. Voiced by Earl Boen (who also voices his identical twin brother Edwin Blackgaard), Dr. Blackgaard is a megalomaniac and international terrorist who has repeatedly attempted to steal computer programs or other valuable resources from the town of Odyssey for monetary gain. The name Blackgaard is clearly intended to convey the same meaning as the word blackguard.

Famous for masterminding the tangled web of schemes surrounding the legacy of the fan-named Blackgaard saga, Dr. Blackgaard, one of the most recognizable characters in the series, has appeared in a mere 16 Adventures in Odyssey episodes, while the series has produced more than 600 to date.

Dr. Regis Blackgaard was last seen in Odyssey when he killed himself by purposely succumbing to a tunnel explosion of his own doing. His death occurred in the episode #334: "The Final Conflict" and his will was carried out in #342: "Welcome Home, Mr. Blackgaard". However, Blackgaard's death is a cause of heated debate among many Odyssey fans, as there are some who refuse to believe that he is dead and demand his return to the series.

Blackgaard's last appearance was in the finale of the Blackgaard saga in episodes #424: "Blackgaard's Revenge, Part 1" & #425: "Blackgaard's Revenge, Part 2". Blackgaard planted a virus in the Imagination Station, which would cause a character with Blackgaard's memory and personality to appear in the Station's programs. The Blackgaard virus attempted to implant Blackgaard's personality onto the brain of young Aubrey Shepard, effectively giving him a "new life". However, the virus was destroyed by Mr. Whittaker.

He is pretty bad. Interestingly, a lot of AIO fans don't think he is dead (although he "died" at least twice). Episodes with him in it usually feature the "parents listen with your kids" warning. He is a pretty deep character, and one that is just plain evil. You have to wonder at his brilliancy, however...

I would keep a eye (or ear!) out for them. My friend and I wrote a couple of AIO episodes just for fun, and they really helped me with my writing skills...
