Can I have ya'll's attention a minute? Yeah, just quiet down for a minute and listen... there you go. I've been talking to Brendan, and there's just something I'd like to say real quick.

What are you here for? Why are you on HW? What is it really about? Can you tell me? Can you sum up in one sentence what the purpose of your presence here is? Yes, no, maybe, kind of?

Well, I'll give you a big hint. It's in the subject line of this thread.

Yup, that's it. It's about writing. It's about putting your dreams and your words, your hopes and stories, onto paper. It's about editing those words until you're sick to death of looking at them. It's about taking those pages and scattering them all over the world. It's about people picking them up, reading them, and seeing the face of God in your story. It's about writing for Him.

So what are you going to do, today? How are you going to incorporate words into the essence of your being? What are your long term goals for having those stories read by others? How are you going to use your life on HW?

Thank you.

Good post, Katie. It makes a very good reminder why we're here.

And why am I here? I want to continue honing my craft, "as iron sharpens iron" until it is the best it can be, and until it becomes the fully potent talent God ordained it to become in me. I also want to encourage and instruct others (where I am able) in their own writing endeavors that they may also reach their full potential.

I know my writing has gotten better by leaps and bounds since I've been here, but I am aware it does have some ways to go. In my time here, I want to correct and polish what I have written, write the things God has for me to write now, and dream of the stories I will write in the future.

I also want to pin some people down and interrogate them about self publishing... :x

It is a great evil that I never commented here, but... I appreciate this very much, and agree with it fully, Katie. Thank you for posting it.

It is all about writing. The thing we have to remember, though, is that writing comes in all shapes and sizes, not just Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Historical Fiction. Seer, for example, writes in many ways that do not include these categories.

I am saddened by the fact that so often we forget that our first priority on HW is not to hang out, but to grow in our writing. This is why I get very excited when I see lots of comments in the Theology section. Part of writing and honing your craft is being able to discuss things in ways that make people understand your point. It also challenges you, as a writer, when someone challenges you with a counter thought process.

A timely reminder, Katie.

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

Works in progress:

The Diegosian Mark, 115,600 words (Preparing for Publication)
The Diegosian Rider, 121,400 words (Finished)
The Diegosian Warrior, 15,000 (In Progress)
