I'm always looking for somewhere to have my HG geek moments.

And I'm thinking. Seriously. We need a topic for this. Cause I know there's more of us out there than we admit. ;)

So! *bounces excitedly* To start this off I'm posting the first official song from the soundtrack! I don't normally do songs like this but I am just obsessing on this one. It almost makes me cry. (Since I've read all the books and I know everything this could refer to...)

*raises hand excitedly* I LOVE THE HUNGER GAMES!! I am so glad to find another Holy Worlder who likes them too! *glomps Lady E and clicks the song*. Oh, and by the way, I have only read the first book so I might not know what the song refers to in some moments. ;)

I really want to read this book, but it is still on hold for me at the library. It seems everyone wants to read them.

That song is very nice :D I hope I will be able to see the movie when it comes out!

I can't wait to see the movie. I actually first heard about The Hunger Games here and looked into it. Now I got my mom into it too. She's about half done with Mockingjay and can hardly put it down. ;)

Personally, I loved Gale from the very beginning. Maybe because he's the kind of character I love writing about and reminded me of one of my characters. I also loved Cinna. So Gale and Cinna are my favorites.

Well, everyone has different opinions, Evenstar. :)

And my favorites are Katniss and Peeta, but I want her to end up with Gale. No spoilers!!! Don't tell me if they end up together or not!!!

It'll be PG-13, I'm pretty sure. There will be plenty of violence, but what I like about it is how the characters respond to it and how they choose to react.

The song is blocked. :P

Here's another version:

And here's a lovely melody set to "The Hanging Tree". (Warning: Video may have slightly edgy pictures in it as far as romance goes.)

As to my favorite character ... Rue ... :bawl:

I agree with most of what's been posted here. The book's ability to drag in and toy with a reader's emotions plus the depressing situation and atmosphere is a very dangerous combination. I can't read them or think about them in depth very often or I'll get depressed myself. There are many more fulfilling and purposeful (and positive!) novels out there to read.

However. I love these books.

Would you guys (specifically Makilien and Evenstar) mind double posting or me moving your posts into the the topic in the Watchtower, though? This thread was supposed to hold things that wouldn't fit in the review section - fan posts and favorite character polls and movie promotion and the like. :)

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna see the movie(s?) when it comes out.

And E, that rendition of the hanging tree was amazing! I'm guessing that was fan-made, right?

Ok, to business. I ship Peetniss, myself. But my favorite character overall is Cinna. He seems to be a shining ray of sanity (and love too) in an otherwise crazy world.

*sigh* Almost everyone I talk to seems to like Gale better, which saddens me to no end (however I won't say why since some of you haven't finished the series...). I always liked Peeta, right from the beginning. Partially because of his name...I love his name :D
For all my talk about being such a huge fan, I haven't actually listened to Safe and Sound yet...

Sheet music! *downloads*

While I'm not really a die-hard fan of the books (though I liked them), I plan to watch the movie once it comes out on Netflix or DVD. I need to reread the books, too. :book:

Go right ahead!

Speaking of favorite characters, I have to ask... Peeta or Gale?

What gets far more vicious than Team Edward or Team Jacob is Star Trek vs. Star Wars. It had celebrities trash-talking each other over that, until George Takei brokered Star Peace.

The interesting thing is, Peeta would have been better for Katniss in a marriage. Gale had way to much hate and anger.

E, that first song makes me want to cry. Forget almost. :bawl:

Cinna and Rue are my favorites. Hands down.

I've finally read the first book. I can see no plausible way I will ever see the movie. Did I enjoy the book? Yes. Can I imagine it as a movie? Yes, and that's not a good thing.

*Shrugs* It's not a series I'm going to let myself finish.

Yeah, I don't like that so much, but I think it's the natural progression of the discussion since there were kind of the two "options" for Katniss, if you will... I still preferred Peeta's character. He was less selfish and he always stuck by Katniss, even when it got really hard. *resists putting in a huge spoiler* I liked his character right off the bat.
One thing is that I keep hearing people say how much they loved Rue, and I liked her, but I didn't quite click with her. I wanted to love her, but I don't know...for some reason I just didn't quite love her like others did. :(

Yeah. I think I "love" Rue because Katniss loved her, and because she was so innocent.

Poor guy. Perpetual drunkenness is not a good place to be, but then neither is his job... :P

Yes, he was a good character, once you got to know him. And he certainly kept things entertaining. xD

It was weird - the first time I read the series, I didn't really attached to anyone but Katniss, Peeta, and Prim. Not Cinna, or Rue or Gale or Foxface or Finnick or anybody. I was terribly attached to Peeta though...still am. But I'm re-reading the books again, a lot slower, trying to get attached to people. I was more attached to Rue this time, though. :D

I agree. :) His relationship with Katniss, particularly in the third book (one of the few highlights for me...) was something I enjoyed watching progress. I loved the part about the headset.

In Mockingjay, he says he'll give Katniss one more chance to keep a headset on. If she doesn't, he'll make her use one that locks onto her head, more or less. And if she manages to get out of that, he'll get a chip implanted in her ear and she'll have to listen to him constantly.

She decides to keep the headset on when he tells her to. ;)

I may or may not have gotten choked up while watching that latest trailer. And I may or may not be watching it for the fourth time now... *goes to place a hold on the book from the library*

The love triangle is one of the things that frustrated me about this series. :P (It frustrates me in most series' actually...) Even so, I liked Gale because he was a down-to-earth character and one that you didn't have to try and figure out. He was what he was, and he didn't have any secrets, or hidden agendas. Peeta always seemed too perfect and flawless in my mind.

The reason I loved these books was mainly for the rich detail and clarity of Suzanne Collins' world. The sci-fi scenery was so realistic, and all the technology was great fun to read.

The other reason I loved them was for the culture. The traditions, and the way they lived. It all reeked credibility, and it was these things I took away from it. I'm kicking around some plot ideas at the moment for a story based in a world similar to this, and it makes for great brainstorming. :D

I am really looking forward to seeing the movie, though! Josh Hutcherson is a brilliant actor, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with Peeta's part. (Might I note, I never really hated Peeta, I just preferred Gale) The setting and all the characters from what I've seen in the trailer look fantastic. I'm looking forward to it! :D

*agrees with Bushmaid*

Peeta did have a bit of a too-good-to-be-true air about him, yes.

The actor who plays Gale sold me. I pictured and "heard" Gale almost exactly like that. o.O

I'm super excited for the movie! It's too far away! I've seen a lot of people complaining about the casting choices for Peeta and Gale, but I think they're both good. Part of it might be that I saw their pictures as the characters while I was reading the books, so they sorta became the images in my head. But I still think they'll do great. I also like Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss. Honestly I thought all the casting choices looked pretty good :)

Does anyone have an idea of what instrument comes in at 0:38 in the trailer music? It sounds like some synthesized violin/oboe thingy. :/ If that's a real instrument, I want to know what it is 'cause it sounds really exotic and cool.

I saw the trailer at the cinema the other night. It looks awesome.
