I'm learning to write description! What do you think? :D

Quote:
Illia grabbed her own helmet and supply box and fell into step beside the others as they headed out. Less than a dozen men followed behind them, their makeshift armor and weapons as sophisticated as their living conditions. Most of their gear was stolen or salvaged from enemy, but fallen soldiers on the enemy side were scarce. The remainder was manufactured from too-oft recycled parts in Illia's science lab.

They walked hurriedly, falling into single file to get through the narrow northern titles. The walls closed in around them even as the ceiling rose above them into darkness their torches couldn't pierce. Batteries were too valuable to waste on lighting so they carried primitive torches made of natural materials. The light they produced barely lit their path, warning them when to duck or sidestep the occasional protruding rock, never throwing enough light to show much farther then the next footstep.

Loose rocks slid out from under pounding feet as they threaded their ways through the twisting tunnels as quickly as possible. Colly followed the occasional beeping on his track device, shaking it when it refused to respond.

“It responds better to a gentle but firm tap,” Illia said. Colly glared at her, and shook it harder. Nothing more was said until they came in sight of the cavern.

*sniffles with Phili* I understand why you're doing that, Zlynny. Have you read "Uncle Tom's Cabin"? Not exactly a research book, but it's set during that period.

Thank you, Phili. :D Your goal sounds awesome.

I really like that, Vanya. :D Nice job.

I have downloaded Scrivner! And am currently working on outlining The Girl on the Swing. I'm going to try to outline three chapters a day.

My goal for Above the Gray Skies is to write at least 1,500 words a day for it. If not more, should I feel the need. :D That should be enough to finish it by the end of the month.

Okay. How about this? My goal, with this draft, is to write it so much better that my sniffling author friends no longer mourn the old version. Seriously, keep protesting as much as you like because that's a goal that really will make me write my very bestest.

(You think that was dramatic and brilliant and heartwrenching? Hold onto your seats!)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- I'm proud of you Azlyn. :D

And -- um, Uncle Tom's Cabin is no doubt interesting, but it is fiction. Not recommended for research at all.

*laughs at Leah* You think that's bad... she's been making me help her CHANGE THE NAMES! It's painful, very painful.

I'm going to dive into Firmament tomorrow. :D I want another finished draft by the end of the year.

So we're supposed to keep complaining and sniffling, especially if the new stuff doesn't seem to measure up to the old stuff? Because that will actually help you write a better book? Well, okay. You asked for it. *is happy about CoL progress*

Those are great goals, RedWing! :D Keep it up!

Another draft of Firmament by the end of the year? Delightful! :D

I wasn't saying it's a good book for research, I was only saying that it was set in that period. ;) :D

Sounds like a good goal, Vanya.

Ha! Don't complain about the names, Grace. Leah's going to help me change the ending.

The names need to be simpler. And the ending needs to be better. Much better. I need the stakes to be much, much higher.

Okay. So despite the fact that I didn't do much writing last week, I managed to get 5k in on Peter's Angel in the form of 3 scenes that only needed minor edits. Starting tomorrow I'm raising my goal to 10k a week and making Peter's Angel my main project. If I stick to that goal, I shall have a minimum of 100k on Peter's Angel by New Year's. I expect the book to be somewhere between 100k-120k, so that will get me very close if not done.

:)

Yes and no. I want to do lots of world building, and also work on the short story that I promised on this sci-fi thread. I'm hoping to maybe, just maybe, have Amerouk all ready to write a story in by January-ish. :D

No, I haven't. But if I do, due to the conversation on the thread I linked, I will probably only read it for time-period information, not information on slavery. :)

The first ending had problem with logical progression of events. The new ending will not only fix all that, it will become much more... intense. :D

Well, security is a big issue even now, so it's a logical element of culture to exaggerate and complicate in sci-fi, especially with the increased technology.

YOU ARE? That's such a big step - and a great goal for the New Year! *tosses cupcakes*

Only because you told me, Mark. ;)

I cleared 70k today on Peter's Angel! That's my weekly minimum, but I want to work past that. At least 75k. Maybe 80k. 80k would be epic. We shall see what God shall do. :D

The Rainbow in the Storm- My Blog

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

Works in progress:

The Diegosian Mark, 115,600 words (Preparing for Publication)
The Diegosian Rider, 121,400 words (Finished)
The Diegosian Warrior, 15,000 (In Progress)

I cleared 70k today on Peter's Angel! That's my weekly minimum, but I want to work past that. At least 75k. Maybe 80k. 80k would be epic. We shall see what God shall do. :D

Excellent.

Thank you, everyone. :D

I don't know, Mark. I don't usually go around trying to figure out people's weaknesses.

I'm afraid that even eight days into the new month, I'm still behind on my goal. I still have one scene to finish in chapter four. However, I'm still hoping to be able to finish up to chapter seven by the New Year.

*nods sagely* Oh yes. Everybody's health depends on cupcakes. Otherwise we might have an epidemic of splatitis.

Woohoo! Go Airi! :dieshappy:

I finished my goal! :D

So my new goal is to type up and edit my book by the end of June. That means a whole chapter a week. *gulp*

I finally finished November's goal, which was to finish up to the end of chapter four. :P My word count at the end of that chapter was 14,972, which is 2K over where I should be at this point. :D
