Here is the next installment in Murel's history. :)

Half an age after the creation of Murel, Matiluz, the head of all the lao, began to become proud of his position and his ability. As time passed, he secretly began to deceive himself into believing that he could be similar to Criel, even better than Criel. Matiluz spread rumors throughout the lao and came to many of them, goading them against Criel and their fellow lao, and promising them power, position under him, and the ability to be like Criel if they would but serve him and proclaim him the god of all things. At the same time, Matiluz went among the phoenix and the gryphons, goading them against each other and promising to them the same things he had promised to the lao.

Matiluz then left them, saying that if they would follow him, they should come to a gathering place in the great desert of Murel. A third of the lao, a fourth of the phoenix, and a full nine-tenths of the gryphons heeded his call and submitted to his rule. Now in the possession of a sizable army, Matiluz declared war on Criel and the creatures that had joined his rebellion. Because the phoenix and gryphons could not ascend to the halls of light, Matiluz appointed the strongest phoenix with the leadership of the phoenix and gryphons, and tasked that phoenix with an attack on Florei that would occur after Matiluz succeeded in taking the halls of light.

The plans of attack made, Matiluz left with his host for the halls of light while the phoenix took his army to Florei. Once the phoenix's army was in position near Florei's border and Matiluz had assembled his host outside the gates to the halls of light, Matiluz cried out a challenge to Criel, blaspheming against the creator and attempting to raise himself to a plane higher than any created thing could ever reach.

At this, Florei emptied with those phoenix and gryphon that had remained true and the gates to the halls of light opened, letting Criel himself stride forth in front of the lao that had remained true.

Criel looked upon the rebelling hosts and spoke to both of them saying, “You were mighty among the created, and yet you craved for more power than your lot. You were high in honor among those who served me, and yet you contrived to obtain honor that did not belong to you. Therefore I will take back the power I gave you, and strip from you the honor that you possess. Forever more you will be a curse and a byword, feared and despised by all. Such is the lot of the fallen, those who contrive to be God.”

Criel then spoke His Word. Immediately, the army that was prepared to attack Florei disbanded, scattering across the face of Murel. At the same time, all of the army assembled at the gates fell down from the heights. For a quarter of an age they fell, until they finally passed into the pits of darkness. Fueled by their humiliation and hatred of Criel, recovery was swift, and as they healed, they turned their hate-filled eyes on Florei and planned how they would overcome it.

*grins* Thanks.

*nods* It's... um... what flowed in my mind. :P But I do intend for them to have fallen a literal age (though an 'age' in Murel is a relative term).

Can you elaborate on ages? What defines a new age? Is there a minimum length for an age?

Basically something big has to happen to the world. Something huge that affects all of Murel. The second age began when Florei fell. The third age began when my equivalent of the flood happened.

eruheran wrote:

Yes, but I'm not sure what it is yet. :P I'm thinking something like... a century or... five. :P
I doubt there would be any specific rule against how long an age can last, but there would be a common census among the people of Murel that ages are supposed to last for awhile.

Where did they fall to? Is the world of Murel arranged in levels like Dante's Inferno?

And what happened to those who didn't follow Matilutz?

See...Adam was the federal head and we all sinned in him when he fell, but...since there were a whole bunch of other people by the time Matilutz fell, things could get really complicated. :D How does that work?

Oops.

The lao (and correspondingly Matiluz), are part of my equivalent to angels. The first fallen chronicle deals with how the angelic equivalents (lao, phoenix, and gryphons) fell. The second deals with the humans fall.

Can you suggest a way to make it clearer that the lao are angels and not humans?

Thanks for commenting on my posts. :D

Aaaaah. Ok. Well, it probably depends on when you believe the angels were created. I happen to think it was before anything else was. God created heaven and the angels, and later on, He created earth. But some people believe it was on day 4 of creation when they were created along with the other "heavenly bodies", and I'm sure there are other theories out there. :D

Depending on what you think, you could either insert them into the first chronicle, (making it clear what they are). Or you could just put in a phrase after 'lao' like "heavenly beings" or something. Is there a name for all of the angelic beings? I'm assuming lao, gryphons and phoenix are like seraphim, cherubim, etc... Is there a name for all of them? Like we sometimes just say "angels"?

*nods* So do I, but if I wrote my angelic creatures in earlier, that would cause a ton of problems with the gryphons and phoenix -- both are bound to Murel. :P

*nods* "Heavenly beings" is a good idea.

There will be a collective name for them. But that (like a lot of other things) is on hold til I get a language. :P

Why wait? I still don't have a language myself (yes, yes, I know...I'm a lexicologist, and I still haven't made a language :P), but I just work at a general idea until I can manage at making names without a full language backing them up. In...fact, I make up so many names in some of my languages that they are beginning to be full languages just by that alone. * grins *

The history is good. * nods * It has a solid, thoughtful feel to it that I like so much in the older authors's writings.

I winced when I saw a notification for this. :P My world is in it's earliest stages of development: probably equivalent to a few years before the Cottage of Lost Play when compared to a Middle Earth timeline.

Because... I currently don't have the time to study langauges to an extent that would make a workable language. :P

That's good. :D Even though my world is in such a half-baked state, I think this part of the history will stay mostly how it is.
