Yes, that was extremely helpful! I have not decided yet what would be most realistic for my culture, but that information gets me going in the right direction. Thank you very much, ladies! :D *gives cupcakes*

Off the top of my head, I think I might say that people ride astride, both genders, when they are riding alone. But if a woman is riding with a man, she typically rides sidesaddle in front of him for formality and elegance, in reflection of her relationship with the man. What do you think?

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

I've never ridden sidesaddle and in my opinion I wouldn't feel safe using one.Though this whole topic has made me think of my stories in a new light. And it's brought up a few questions. Would using sidesaddles ever effect the horse by throwing off its weight? Or is the weight still centered for the most part?

From what I can gather off the internet, the earliest functional side saddle designed made it difficult for the woman to stay on and control the horse, so a man would have led her whilst riding. In the 16th Century a side saddle was made so that the woman could ride side saddle without being led, but only go at slow speeds. In the 1830's someone developed a side saddle that was safe enough to gallop and even jump with whilst still feeling secure. So basically, years ago when they didn't have the new side saddle that one can jump and gallop in, if they wanted to jump, gallop and go at fast speeds, they would have to ride astride. A breastcollar is used to stabalize the saddle.
