This is how I figured magic could work in my world. Tell me what you think.

Magic is controlled by a jewel shaped in a sphere the size of a golfball. There is one jewel for each element: fire, water, wind, and earth.
The jewels can only be controlled by a certain person from each generation of people. That person is drawn to the current holder of the jewel they can control. The jewel holder is called the Diawel Holder.
The Diawel Holder draws on the elemental magic of the jewel and their own lifesource: blood. The diawel fuses the blood with the elemental magic and then allows the holder to direct it.
The Diawel Holder can use the fused magic and blood to do anything within the magic's power. Though if they draw too much of their own blood, they can die.
The holders themselves have double the blood amount of their normal race, but it replenishes slower unless they eat a certain food which releases enzymes into the body that break down the inhibiting chemical.

I don't know yet. Still thinking on that. :) It's probably going to be a bread or cake though because those are my favorite. ;)

That's a pretty neat idea. I would make the food they eat hard to get. And somewhat more interesting than bread or cake.

For food, I think it should be a fruit or herb. Most enzymes break down when heated. So bread or cake wouldn't be ideal unless they were made using special techniques and extremely low heat.

Also, it isn't physically possible for a person to have double the blood volume of a normal person. Perhaps, they should have the same volume, but be able to replenish it faster when they eat that certain food.
So, if they were to eat that particular food, it would aid their body in replacing the lost blood faster.
(When you donate blood, it takes several weeks for the lost red blood cells to be replaced.)

Just things for you to consider, but your general idea is still very good!

Hmmm...Thanks for telling me that. I like the idea of special techniques because it makes it more unique. ;) Could the blood be thicker instead of double the volume? Or would that clog the veins?

Wondering... do these Diawel orbs affect the user's personality in any way, or are the better wielded by users of certain personalities?

The Diawels do not affect personalities in any way. But yes certain personalities are better suited for certain Diawels..But since each Diawel can be used by one person from each generation, the personality of the Holder automatically matches the element his/her Diawel controls.

It's impossible in our world. Doesn't mean it has to be impossible in his world :)

I think would would be interesting if it was a rare fruit or something. I like your idea a lot though, Kenton. That's definitely a unique magic system.

Would it be possible if the person had two hearts?

Wouldn't the problem with having double the volume of blood be in the capacity to hold the blood? If so, one would need two whole circulatory systems. :P
