The Elves of Sevly-Thryn sent a war band after the fleeing refugees of Kuh'haysa, for they had been sent word that they where scouring the land and killing the people of the east as they fled. Though the Elves in that war band where skilled trackers they soon became lost among the Blackwood when setting camp there, for the accursed wood was black and full of evil. Maddening and fearful, it led all their minds in a black abyss whether they would deny it or not. Only by the light of The One in them, would they have run crazed into the Darkness and become like the Goblins. And thus it is that alone in the dark of that dreaded wood, they have slowly found one another, created that cherished dwelling, and slowly multiplied. Though the fear of becoming lost, is ever present.
The Dark Elves, best of all trackers, relied heavily on stealth and the cover of night. Using blackened leather for amour, their garb was completely black and their feet silent as the trees, leaving not a trace but vanishing into the night, leaving just a faint and dark memory of something unbecoming in an Elf.

So I was wondering, "Blackwood" has been used a lot, (Door with in trilogy, Wing feather saga, etc). any suggestions for a new name?

The first thing that came to my mind was the Black Forest in Germany. You could take that (a real place, which would be a neat little Easter egg for your reader's to find) and translate it into French (because things sound amazing in languages like French in fantasy! :P ;) ) and make it the Forêt Noire (pronounced four-Ay n-war). Just an idea.

You could also try Home of Darkness in French, which is Accueil des Ténèbres. I think that's pronounced Ack-you-oy day Ten-eh-bray. So, they could be The Dark Elves of Forêt Noire (which I think has a nice ring to it) or The Dark Elves of Acceuil des Ténèbres (you may even want to shorten it to Acceuil Ténèbres). You're choice. These are just suggestions. ;)

I do have one question: are these elves like a light in the midst of darkness, or are they slowly turning evil themselves?

Hope this helped!

I like your idea

Yes, these elves are a light in the darkness, however dim that light may be. but instead of being nice and kind they tend to be darkened some what by the woods.

maybe, I haven't really thought much on that. it would be a good twist though, to make some slowly turn mad by the woods until they are completely evil. although once they do turn evil they would slowly turn into Goblins
