Another parallel thread in the Bestiary and my sub-forum for Iniel.

But since land dwelling beasts have a thread, and plants, and soon birds and sea dwelling animals will have threads, what is this thread about?

It is for what is, perhaps, the greatest class of beasts and plants (though not the most important).

Those of Outer Space.

But this thread is only about the beasts of outer space, and not about the plants, though they are also Corh. Also, the Corh can inhabit places other than outer space; they only must be able to inhabit outer space at some stage of their life to be Corh.

You may pronounce it Cor if you like, some folk in Iniel do, but I also pronounce it more like H said while the tongue is in the position of R, so that air is blown between the curled tip of my tongue and the top of my mouth. There is no trill.

Here is the first of the the Corh beasts.

This sort, called Cun (pronounced coon), plural Cunen, can be unaffected by gravity, can occupy the same place and time as another object or Corh, can be invisible, intangible, tasteless, unable to be smelled, and without any other form of radiation.

They are never shapeless, unless they are a sort that is vaporous in form.
When they have a form it is either perfect, symmetrical, and simple, such as polygons, polyhedrons, perfect crystals, spheres or oblongs, or they are symmetrical patterns of liquid, changing or unchanging, or they are vaporous.

They can grow or diminish in size, but they cannot change shape unless they are a kind that is liquid or vaporous in form.

They can affect things regardless of contact, distance, or substance.
They can have multiple bodies without any connection except spirit.
They can change color and brilliance, and can truly exist in only one or two dimensions, or in more than three dimensions.

A Corh can change what time it exists in, ceasing to exist, appearing out of nowhere, and meeting itself, perhaps several of itselves at one time. Of course they do not change history, or the future: When they go back in time they can only do what they already have done (since in the past they have come back from the future, and so in a sense saw what they would do in the future).

When a Cun dies it loses the power of decision, its spirit, and continues in a fixed or repeating pattern of actions, or they cease to exist in any time or place. Their pattern of actions can be made (by any that have the power) so that no one and no thing can alter it.

Corh can pass from one Heavens to another Heavens through the Surfaces.
I will post threads about the Heavenses and the Surfaces, but I mention them here:
http://www.holyworlds.org/fantasy/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=2487

They cannot communicate with other creatures except by systems devised by themselves.

They cannot do a mistake, because if they make a mistake, before they do it they are drawn, apparently by curiosity, to a convenient place, and they die.

They will do random things that effect nothing in the universe except themselves and their playmates, for the fun of it.

They can only eat other living Cunen. They meet in a contest, and the loser will either become a disconnected body of the winner, or be transformed, partly or wholly, into potential energy for the winner. If they are partly transformed into energy, they leave behind a symmetrically shaped or formless waste.

They mate in many ways, some by passing through each other, some by remotely synchronizing their movements. The baby Cun can begin to exist larger than its parents. It may begin near its parents, or in the same place as the mother, or it may replace the mothers control over a disconnected body. Whether or not its appearance changes, it grows stronger, being given strength by its parents.

What do you think of them?

What do I think of them?! I have absolutely no idea! :dieshappy:

So pretty much, they can be anything anywhere anytime in any form, seen or unseen, known or unknown, in any way they desire... Sounds great! :dieshappy:

Actually they are very limited in form. They do not even have articulated joints as you do. They can only be themselves: one common form of the Cunen is like a featureless, shiny, black plank. This form cannot even change its size.

I think they're amazing! :D I can think of no questions at the moment, but I'll probably be back later to interrogate you about them, Tsahraf. ;)

Compliments on a great post! I skimmed it the other day and came back today armed with queries. I read it more closely and discovered I had only one question left: how intelligent are they?

You have come up with yet another memorable creature and I may play the part of the querist again soon. :D

Some of the Cunen can be Wise Beasts- I should start a thread on Wise Beasts- and the rest have a strange kind of intelligence of their own, more plant like than other animals.

Wow. That word describes what I think of it. This is a masterpiece of writing and imagination. I am in amazement. I have some questions for you.

1. How do they affect your story? (I hope they play a crucial part, being as they are such good ideas.)

2. What can kill one of these things?

3. How does magic interfere with them? (Are they magic resistant?)

4. Do they have an organized society or hierarchy and, if so, what does it take to establish a said hierarchy?

5. Are they bound to any other natural laws (exempting time and space)? For example: can they make a round square?

6. How long do they live naturally?

7. You said it can affect its surroundings and other creatures, what is meant by affect? Could you give some examples?

8. Can they take a human or familiar form other than those you described?

9. Are any of them good or evil?

Thanks, this stuff is amazing! :D

Thank you very much for your interest, Aeleknight! I see you are a newer member, so welcome to the forum!

1.
They will play many crucial parts, though I do not know what they are yet. I am going to wait until I am older to write stories, and until then I write histories. As a whole the Cunen and probably other sorts of Corh play a universally crucial role: They are the Shepherds of the Stars.

2.
Another Corh would kill them and prey on them.
The first people that were- who are called the Elders- often had the ability to move bodiless through the universe. So the Elders could reach them, and kill them, if they needed to.
Also, the Second Generation of Men inhabited the surfaces between worlds, and so they have peculiar abilities to interact with things in space.

3.
This would take a book to answer in full; suffice it to say that there are those who have the power to destroy them, and there are those they have the power to destroy.

4
Their hierarchies, even of those that are not Wise Beasts, have an indescribable precision. I certainly could not map it all out, not in my lifetime. Their roles and initiations and responsibilities are as many and varied and critical as the cells of a body.
As Ramandu said in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader:
"It is not for you, a son of Adam, to know what faults a star can commit."
Though, in the case of Iniel, it is not unright to learn, only impossible, though you studied for a thousand years.

I will have to post the rest later.

Cool. I'm looking forward to hearing more.

I'm doing the same. I am going to write the book but edit it when I am older and know better what I am doing.

I continue to increase in my understanding of Jay's profound statement, to the effect of "I don't understand Patrick's world".

Very cool. Also very mindboggling. Like everything else you come up with: five stars.

Redemption is to be purchased, to have a price paid. So I was redeemed from my master sin, and from justice, which demanded my death. For He paid the price of sin by becoming sin, and met the demands of justice by dying for us.

For all men have a master. But a man cannot have two masters. For he will love one and hate the other. You cannot serve God and sin. So I die to the old, as He died, and I am resurrected to the new, as He was resurrected.

Note: Ebed is Hebrew for bondsman, Eleutheros is Greek for unrestrained (not a slave).
