Definitely, one hundred and ten percent. I will promise never in all of my days to put anybody through such torture as my Jane Austen addicted mother and sister have done to me. *holds hand up* You have my word.

You know...but it's totally fine if somebody else likes her books, though.

I have read all of Jane Austen's books, and for a girl who likes tea parties and such I definitely recommend them. Now for a boy I would say; let the girls read them. These books have too much romance for guys and the main characters are female.
Jane Austen is my favorite author.

I do think it's kind of cruel to recommend these books to boys unless they like those kinds of books.

Jane Austen is not mushy at all. They are about love and such but not mushy touchy-feely stuff.

(Oh, and for the record I don't like her stories being a guy. ;) But I do recognize her talent and she is a very good writer.)

I'm finding Emma amusing, sort of. :) But my ebook is really bad quality so it's hard to make out the words sometimes. I don't know if I will keep reading after I finish Emma (and no, I haven't finished Emma yet. My stupid phone won't hold a charge long enough and I've been reading other books :D)

I know this is irrelevant to the Jane Austen "book books" but I thought it would be appropriate to post this here because it pertains to Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice." I thought it was funny. X3 http://www.much-ado.net/austenbook/

I finished the book last night. =P I wouldn't call it a page turner, but I did stay up late to finish it :D Very good book, I must say.

Random Thoughts:
Jane's aunt annoyed me to death but she was funny. :) I still don't like Jane.
Mrs. Elton is an idiot, as is Mr. Elton and Harriet. Harriet shouldn't have ended up with George Martin.
How did I know Emma would marry Knightley! :D
It's interesting to see Emma change throughout the book; and Jane Austen is a wizard at dialogue :)
They need to make clearer who is who. I got the two Knightleys confused at first :P

Jane's aunt is a sweetie. Even if she is unbearably ridiculous at times. I never liked Jane, there was something about her. :?
I agree with your view on Mr. and Mrs. Elton. :D But not Harriet; Mr. Martin was the guy she liked first before Emma came along anyway!
The old BBC movie of Emma was confusing that way; you didn't know who was who till the punch line.

I think Mr. Knightley was Jane Austen's best character out of all the characters I've read/seen so far. :)

I love watching Emma's transformation in the book. It is one of the reasons I like Emma so much.

Emma's character arc and the dialogue are the two things I took away from the book, at least in how to improve my own writing :)

Just watched the Emma movie...it was OK. It was that one with some girl in it...Gwyneth Paltrow, I think.

The book is better though. The movie is from a more detached narrator, so you find things out much quicker than in the book.

Pfft! That isn't one of Jane Austen's books. I doubt Jane would have written anything like that. No, that's someone else's version of it.

Lady Ness,
I started one of the books once and just put it down. Maybe give it some time and pick up a different title. :) After all, I'm a pretty unlikely candidate to be liking these sorts of books (OK, one) yet I do

They aren't Jane Austen's, Sherlock. So you aren't investigating anything, silly. :D

Of course, of course :)

So *drags thread back on-topic* Since the read-a-thon's coming up, and I can get classics like Austen for free on my phone, what would y'all recommend I read after Emma? P&P?

P&P is harder to read in my opinion, but it is still enjoyable; I think you should read it next. :dieshappy:

The crownless again shall be king

I personally haven't read any Jane Austen books, however my mom loves Jane Austen and owns all the books. I'm sensing that I'll be reading them soon for school though. Anyway...even though I haven't read the books, I've seen some of the movies and the BBC Pride and Prejudice was my favorite, even though it's six hours long. The story itself is interesting and I actually liked it, and I am most definitely not one for romance at all - ask anybody who knows me. So just from a standpoint of knowing the story of Pride and Prejudice well, I'd start with that one :)

I have finished Pride and Prejudice now. Which one should I read next? Sense and Sensibility? I really enjoyed P&P though I liked the characters better in Emma, I think.

Well, S&S is a good one, though harder to get into than the two you have already read. You also have Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey. :D

I'm glad you liked P&P, Eru. Have you started another yet?
