I love Myst but I've only played Exile.

I'm almost through Riven, I don't have anything beyond Exile but I want to get the books so bad. I seriously love Riven though, I want to live there

I love the Myst games! Riven took my siblings and me forever to finish. It was awesome.

I haven't ever seen the books, but the games are the BEST. Sadly, we tried to pull Riven out to play again and it wouldn't install on our computer.

Myst actually had places that scared me when we first played it. I was pretty young then, too, and the room was usually dark when we played (so we could see better when the screen had dark rooms), so it was a little frightening at times.

Now I want to play them all again...but Myst and Riven probably won't install on our computers. Agh...

I might be able to help with that, Leandra. I learned all kinds of sneaky ways to get all different versions of all the games to install on all kinds of operating systems.

Like Eve I am a massive Myst fan. She's actually only the second person I've met to truly enjoy them, and first one who was as obsessed as I am. I've played four of them and am working around to the fifth. I feel very betrayed in that they swapped live actors for animations in the fifth, though. The live actors is what made Myst so real to me.

Myst has given me a love for round architecture, and it's the only fantasy world to really catch me as a fan. I like Myst the way some people like LotR. I can write a bit of Narayani, I have the D'ni font installed somewhere, I have the books, I know all the minute little details, and I love coming up with logical reasons for the inconsistencies between the games.

I'm not really sure which ages I like best. It probably doesn't help that it's been a while since I've played most of the games. Spire was rough...I'd probably still end up stuck there again if I played, because I don't remember some important things we did.

I like to say that Evening has the coolest dad ever, other than my own of course. I mean, come on! He helped make Myst III!!!

The music from Spire still drives me crazy, and so does the stuff from Serenia. All the music from Exile and Revelation is really, really good though.

I really liked Edanna, and J'nanin. I'm furious about not getting to visit Releeshahn or Narayan. From Myst I think my favorite was stone ship. (Stone ship in realMyst is super, super cool.) Mechanical was really creepy. Voltaic drove me insane. Channelwood was nice. Favorite age from Revelation... eh... I didn't care for any of them above normal, really. Spire was pretty though, even if the puzzles did make me want to pull my hair out. So was Serenia. (Until they hit you with dream world and.. arg! This is Myst? I don't think so...)

I don't remember what most of the ages are named. But yeah, the Mechanical Age in Myst was creepy. I think I had a bit of a nightmare involving it once.

I watched my parents play when I was little. I was obsessed with torture then, so it didn't really bother me as much as fascinate me, but when I played it myself it kind of freaked me out.

Unlike Evening I didn't start playing until a few years ago. I've gone straight through, gathering siblings as I went, and it usually takes me about six months to finish a game.

Actually... I installed Myst on our ancient 98 laptop, and my brother and I were both playing separate games and trying very hard not to compare notes. After that computer bit the dust mid game ( ) we reinstalled the DVD version (that we got for Christmas) and just started over, playing together. My sister joined in very near the end and then we started in on Riven as a trio. Once we finished Riven we added another sister for Exile, and that was hilarious. Fortunately most messages could be replayed, so we'd have two sets of headphones and we'd trade around. We also used the wonderful subtitle feature. Two would listen while two would read and then we'd switch and argue about Saavedro's voice. (It drove some of us crazy and some of us thought it was really cool.) The parts we couldn't replay we fortunately guessed far enough in advance to put on speakers. Then each one of us had a shot at a different ending... Then when I played Revelation I just dropped back down to one sister. Myst is just much more fun playing with people than by yourself.

(Let's see, if I finished Revelation six months ago I started a year and then give a year for the other three, I'm twenty now I started playing when I was... 16? Something like that. It's really past time to get End of Ages... oh wait, I got realMyst a few months ago. That's why I'm not desperate yet.)

It is! It really helps with some of the puzzles, too. I look at some of the stuff we did in Riven, and I'm so glad my siblings were there to figure some of it out. Plus, my sister was willing to write stuff down, and that was so important. I think she was the one who sat down to figure out the numbers, too.
Sometimes it's annoying, though, if you're the person currently in charge of the mouse and everyone starts telling you where to click and what to look at next.

I was the one who would write. When we played Riven and Exile my brother drove, my sister clicked on random stuff and I wrote. full fledged journal entries too, they were cool. I wish now I'd had a specific journal to write them in, they're all laying around on loose leaf paper. I hated the journal feature in Revelation actually. I didn't write everything down on paper, the picture taking feature made puzzles too easy, and instead of actual journal entries I just captured images half the time. I think once or twice I was stuck, and my sister wasn't around, so I would sit and ramble for three pages pretending I was talking and it helped. A little. But I don't have actual physical pages, which makes me sad.

One of these days, Evening, I'll play Myst V, and then tell you how it is.

I like Myst a lot but I haven't had access to a computer that can run it for a long time.

I figure that after I get a job I'll buy realMyst and whichever other ones Steam had (Uru and something else). XD

As a side note, though, "that story has Myst-like puzzles" is a favorite phrase to apply to some of my favorite Stargate episodes as well as the film City of Ember. <grin>

Oooh, yes, Myst is good. Awesome games. Riven is my favorite, I think. I want a version with better graphics, though; that'd be awesome.

Actually, I was thinking about Riven when I said I wanted better graphics, but yes, I will have to play realMyst sometime.

Hi! If you want to know how much of a Myst fanatic I am,....

I cannot count the number of times I have started Uru. I am not an Uru expert. I said started not finished. I have finished it once with my mom helping. She likes to explore. I am an utter coward and don't mind in the least. I have got to have read the book of Ti'anna 4or5 dozen times. I have tried making up a D'ni language unsuccesfully...*sigh...*

Hi, I'm back guys. I'm working through Exile and reading the book of Atrus and begging my dad to get the other games for my birthday. I want a soundtrack to all these games as well. When I was reading Atrus' journal at the beginning of Exile and he said he couldn't bear to go back to Myst I made sure he was aware I wouldn't mind living there, my family looked at me funny... My favorite ages are Myst and Riven. Channelwood was nice but I'd want more room to move about than docks and tree bridges. Stone ship would be a nice place to take a break, like when you need a vacation with no adventures. J'nanin was nice in the valley but it's too windy for my taste. Voltaic was rather aggravating.

If you like the Myst age, you should like Uru. You get a "safe age" called Relto that's similar to Myst. Anytime anything happens that would kill you(like losing your balance and falling off a cliff), it automatically links back to Relto.

Yeah, see, two of my favorite things about Myst are:

1. No stupid animated people. They use real actors.
2. You don't die all the time. In fact, you can't die unless you do something stupid and end up with an ending that involves you dying.

And in End of Ages and Uru they take out those elements and kind of ruin it for me... I've heard the bad ending for End of Ages is tragic though, which makes me interested because I love tragic endings.



Didn't you know? They relaunched it back in... 2008? Maybe? Anyway, they went to opensource, so it's actually supported by the Myst community. Which is cool. But yeah, they closed down Uru LIVE and then brought it back.

I just got Myst and Riven. Started playing Myst the other day. It's very fun but it doesn't have the same quality as Exile. But it is a lot older.

Well I've done all the ages but the spaceship thing. Those stupid music notes are hard!

My Mom and I have finally decided to dig out Myst, Riven and Exile from the layers of dust they were sitting in so that I can play it for the first time (and so that she can replay it).

Unfortunately, Myst won't work at all on our Windows 7 computer.

Riven will start and show a scene with a man at a table, but the mouse disappears when we scroll near the game window.

Exile isn't working either. I think something went wrong in the installation.

Help, anyone?

How terrible! Try running it as an older system. the way you do this is to right click on the program in the start menu and select Properties. Under properties there should be an option somewhere to run as an older version of windows. There's also a check box to run it in 265 colors, which you might also have to do. See if that helps it.

I love to watch Eve play Myst III. My favorite age is probably Voltaic. I like the roller coaster ride.

Riven and Exile are working fine now.
Unfortunately, Myst is still giving us trouble. We can start the game but as soon as we click on important things it messes up.

Having now read the books, it's way more fun reading the in-game journals because I know the back story. I love back story.

Random aside, the mirror world in "Mirror Mirror" looked like the type of world Atrus would create.
