I know, a shocker, who wants to hear about Humans??? But I have brought a new idea into my book about Humans. In many books Humans are the weakest race, leaving us readers wishing we were an Elf, even a Dwarf, but not a Human.

My book is a little different. It's about a half-Elf who longs for her Human roots. She is ashamed to be even the least bit Elvish and runs away from the Elves to live with the Humans.

The Humans are not much different than most of us. All my Humans are Israeli (read the Allabanne history.) The lighter skinned people are obviously part Elf or Fairy and are treated as inferiors. The royal family is a bit different. They all have red hair and caramel skin and are basically immortal. (They age 5 years for every 20 years after turning 20)

I know most of you guys probably won't like this idea of Humans being the "best" race but if it makes me be glad to be a Human I think it's great!

I think it's great to have humans buck the trend of being the "boring" race in fantasy. There are so many things you can do to spice humans up, if you're willing to take the time to develop their cultures.

For humans to have better longevity than they do in our current real world is a plausible way to go...after all, how many biblical figures do we read about that lived what we consider to be super-human lifespans?

That's part of why one of my races of humans, the Elgadrim, who are the chosen people of the creator in my world, get longer lifespans than the "heathen" people of the world. Their close walk with the creator gives them the blessing of long life (among other things.)

If you decide to make your humans the "strong race," I think there will be plenty of readers who appreciate that. A huge proportion of the fantasy reading population has tired of elves. (I, personally, could never tire of elves, I don't think, but that's just me. ;) )

I love the idea of humans being so important! It has always irritated me how people so often just blow us right off the top. :)

That's why in my books, while humans may not have the power that some other races do, they are always just as important. Besides, what's that verse about God being strongest in weakness? :)

Nessa- She's given up the veil, the vows she'd sworn, abandoned every effort to conform. Without a word to anyone she's gone her way alone, a dove escaping back into the storm.

Nolan- And though I don't understand why this happened, I know that I will when I look back someday, and see how you've brought beauty from ashes, and made me as gold purified through the flames.

Azriel- And who do you think you are, running round leaving scars, collecting your jar of hearts, and tearing love apart? You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul, so don't come back to me. Don't come back at all...

Is that what you were looking for, Mindy?

I have seven, equal tribes in my world: all are human (or mortal if you prefer that term) and of one blood. In the beginning they were all blessed with individual, unique gifts. As they mingled with each other, however, they lost the potency of their original gifts, and became weaker. A person who has a pure blood line from one of the tribes is called a lord (Dragon-lord, Elve-lord, Man-lord, etc.), a person with lineage from two tribes is called a mingle (such as a Fire-elve, which is a dragon/elve mingle), and anybody more mixed than that is called a cran. When most of my stories take place, mostly everyone are crans, except for a few mingles (there are only a handful of lords left). So I do not have an over-race or an under-race: I have a weaker generation and a stronger generation.

In most the humans may be weakest.

In my book it is the humans that first attack the evil one and it is the humans that try to join against him and it is (mainly) the humans (with a little help of course) that defeat him. The humans in my book are certainly most valiant. But of course, some humans have their bad points like one of my characters (pretty much all bad) he's very rude (sounds like an elf) obnoxious, lazy, sissy, whiny, cowardly etc. but that does not mean the rest of the whole race is! Aragorn is a man!

In my stories, there aren't really any superior races. They're all actually equal. However, I do usually write a story focusing on one race, and they may think some races are better than others, depending on who I'm writing about.

In the world I am collaborating with my siblings, Rawl, the humans are the chosen line. And Elves are a subset of humans. Ironic.

Scratch that. He is not a man (I forgot) He is of the ancient race of Numenor.

Numenorians were men with elvish blood in them. And some blood of the Valar too... if you know the stories... :)

I fear I must correct Sir Emeth, he said "blood of the Valar", but Melian was actually a Maia. Maia are the lesser members of the Ainur, Valar are the higher order.

Redemption is to be purchased, to have a price paid. So I was redeemed from my master sin, and from justice, which demanded my death. For He paid the price of sin by becoming sin, and met the demands of justice by dying for us.

For all men have a master. But a man cannot have two masters. For he will love one and hate the other. You cannot serve God and sin. So I die to the old, as He died, and I am resurrected to the new, as He was resurrected.

Note: Ebed is Hebrew for bondsman, Eleutheros is Greek for unrestrained (not a slave).

I stand corrected. It has been years since I read the Silmarillion. :)

I didn't know the Numenorians had maiar in them.

I totally agree with everything already said. It bugs me how the humans are always the worst.

I do have a sort of super-human race, but there never were very many, and now there are less than 100 left. I also have another race alot like humans, but they are better in some points and worse in others.

I have something similar; The Durininians that were the inventors and philosophers of the South forests and jungles of Durinin. They live longer than humans and are faster, too. They are much smarter over all.

Humans generally don't have any special gifts or abilities, but their adaptability makes up for that. They're also the ones that fight the hardest and give the most to defeat the villian.

In my book there are zero elves. (I represent the part of the population that has elf-o-phobia) There are several different races and sub-races of humans, and a few select dwarves left in the world. Though I don't explain it in the story, the point behind the dwarves is that the Creator made both humans and dwarves, in the beginning. A long time ago, though, a wicked human king made war and destroyed most of the dwarves, who only live in three isolated tribes now.

I like the idea because it is really unique. Not many people do that. My peoples so far [Arians and Oredrenis (sp?)] are basically humans with a few distinguishing characteristics that separate them from other races.
