Hello. Just joined today. I was getting prepared for NaNoWriMo and wanted more information about writing fantasy as a Christian. So far I've gotten a lot of good advice.

What is your favorite part about writing?

Welcome to Holy Worlds! I like your username. :D

I'm considering trying NaNoWriMo this year. Have you done it before?

Ooh, you're doing NaNo? Me too.
You've definitely come to the right place, I'm glad HW has been helpful to you.
Since you're planning on doing NaNoWriMo, I thought you might like to participate on this thread.
What kind of music do you like to listen to? Do you write while listening to music?

Worldbuilding. What is yours? :D

Looking forward to seeing you around the forum.

Thank you. ^_^

I tried Nano last year, but only got half way before college overwhelmed my efforts. I was unknowingly a pantser last year, which really doesn't work for me. I have found some great outlining methods this year and am going to prepare for it this time. I'd like to write my whole novel, which would probably be more like 100,000 words, but we'll see how it goes.

Would it be your first time doing Nano? I think it's a lot of fun. I plan to go to the events this year (at least the ones I can). I didn't have a car last year. That puts a damper on travel.

Cool. What kind of inspiration? I love imagining stories and watching/writing my characters interact. I think they are hilarious, or at least they entertain me. When they are not entertaining, I chuck them.

Hello! Thank you.

Awesome. Have you won Nano before? Are you a planner or a pantser?
I will definitely check it out. Sometimes new forums can be overwhelming. So many posts, so little time.

I like country, christian, rock, pop. My favorite bands are David Crowder*Band and NeedtoBreathe. I don't generally listen to music while I write. I think I'm afraid it will affect the mood of the story too much--my mood is easily influenced by music. That can be a good thing, but not when it comes to writing.

Imagining stories and letting my characters interact. I enjoy building the character, but not as much as making them talk to each other.

Same to you.

Welcome to HWFF, Mockingbird! I love your username!

How long have you been writing for? Do you just write fantasy, or do you write in other genres as well?

Thank you very much.

I can't really remember a time I was not interested in books or writing, but serious writing started seven years ago. Pretty much just fantasy. That is my favorite genre to read, so I figured it would be what I am best at writing.

That would be neat.

Uplifting people, by encouraging them and revealing spiritual truths.

Who are your favorite authors?

I like Needtobreathe. What's your favorite song by them?

*Nods* Yes, I have always loved reading and writing too.

I didn't really discover Fantasy until I joined these forums a couple of years ago. I had read Lord of the Rings and Narnia, but I have never thought of writing fantasy myself, and I didn't really know much about it, if that makes sense. :)

Harper Lee (Hence the "mockingbird"), Jim C. Hines (although I have only read one of his series--Jig the Dragonslayer), J. R. R. Tolkein. I don't generally stick to one author, though. I just get whatever books look most interesting. What about you? What genre do you like to read?

"Prisoner" I love the drums.

Oh, I love Harper Lee's 'To Kill a Mockingbird', it's a brilliant book! :)

Definitely; I suppose I was brought up to be wary of any fantasy writing. My parents don't like Lord of the Rings, and they really weren't keen on fantasy at all. However, I met Jay and discovered Holy Worlds, and I started trying out little bits of fantasy writing. I had always loved Lord of the Rings, and I guess that is what first made me interested in Fantasy. I am currently writing a fantasy novel, and what's funny is my parents really helped me with figuring out the plot! So even their view of it has changed aswell, in some ways! I do like writing Historical Fiction, but I am really, really enjoying writing in fantasy. :)

*Nods* I think it's the magic element that they don't like. :)

Jay is Sir Emeth Mimetes, our Admin (He started these forums up).

I love how creative you can be with it all. I love the world building, creating different races. I love being create my own creatures, let my imagination run wild. ;) Hehe.

I've always been afraid of reading horror. (puny, but it's true.) What do you like about horror?

That's a good one. I had to listen to it to remember it.

Yeah, finishing up. yay!

Ah. Good to know.

Yes, yes. Imagination is very fun. I love other kinds of creativity as well (cooking, art, etc.), but writing seems to go further and farther. I also find it exciting that a reader could have his or her imagination sparked by the stories I write.

Yes, I've won twice, this'll be my third year (hopefully my third 50,000+ words). I'm a pantser that desperately wants/wishes/tries to plan. I plan a few things out, and try to develop the characters beforehand (unfortunately I'm terrible at character development, though), and try to know where the story is going. But I am not good at outlining at all. :P
I know what you mean, I've been here for awhile and it's very hard to keep up. o.O

 David Crowder* Band is my favorite as well. :dieshappy:
Ah, that makes sense, though some people around here like to listen to music while writing (I do sometimes).

That's cool! I don't spend enough time imagining my stories, which is interesting because I used to imagine stories all the time. I must try to do that more.

I'm not very good at art, but I enjoy baking. And I'm a dog groomer which is pretty creative. I'd love to dye a Poodle pink, and style it looking all funky. Ahem, anyway.....

Oh, definitely! Well, you're creating a whole new world really, aren't you, in many ways; so I suppose that's what pulls readers in to being even more interested in the story. :)

*Chuckles* It is fun. I love it, when I'm working, three hours feels like ten minutes. That day passes super fast, I am so caught up in what I'm doing.

Basically you brush the dog out, you bath it and blow it dry. Then you clip and scissor the dog into a style, depending on what breed it is. :)

A lot of horror seems to say, “The world is a dark and twisted place. The End.” The focus is on scaring the reader. But Christian horror can focus on giving the reader hope by saying, “The world can be a dark and twisted place, but God’s light will overcome the darkness.” That's why I like it, and write it.

Basically you brush the dog out, you bath it and blow it dry. Then you clip and scissor the dog into a style, depending on what breed it is. :)

That's fantastic. I am happy for you. What is your favorite dog to groom?

Definitely a Miniature Schnauzer. But I enjoy trimming Westies, Mini Poodles, and most other breeds. :) I think the hardest are Standard Poodles, because they take hours to dry, and then a while to trim as well!

Nice. :D What's your major?

Christian horror. I didn't know there was such a thing. That is fascinating. I figure I should not be surprised. There is Christian Death Metal. :D That sounds awesome.

English! I feel so...typical right now. xD

Have you published Christian horror?

True. Preferable to underwater basket weaving.

Interesting. Which one do you like better? Is short story your favorite length to write in?

Perhaps "The Coming," even if I might have written it slightly differently now. (I imagine many authors look back and think that. ;))

I prefer writing books, from children's length to adult length, so that's what I mostly focus on. What age group do you prefer to write for?

Welcome to Holy Worlds! (Since I can shorten your name, can I call you Symphony? ;) )

Yay! Another person who's doing NaNo and who likes Tolkien! :D

Welcome to HW, Symphony. I can see that you're already getting to know people, so that's great.

I love Tolkien as well.

From what I've read so far, you'll fit into HW like a hand into a glove. Don't hesitate to jump right in and start posting in the threads. That's what I did. Oh, and if you haven't been there yet, the chat room is a great place to meet people and discover just how crazy us HWers can be. ;)

What Waits in Shadow (fantasy short story--editing)
The Stranger's Gift (fantasy short story--editing)
The Crystal Orb (fantasy short story--writing)

Yeah, I've heard that a lot from people. A work is never perfect, at least in the author's eyes. Which is a good thing: it shows your writing is improving. :)

I don't really focus on an age group. I like full novel length (shooting for about 100,000 words this year). Short stories are fun too, but I don't seem to do as well with them.

Nope. I like books that stand on their own, so I write the same way.

Do you plan to have multiple stand alone fantasy books set in the same world?

Probably not. In a way I suppose they might be: I don't want to create a new world as far as landscape and weather, but the creatures, magic, and society are different. Those will only be in the one story. Once I'm done with the story, I want to make everything new. :)

I haven't decided on my ultimate favorite Tolkien character yet. :P :dieshappy:

I'm doing historical fiction (my very first time to try it out!) so I'm pretty much stumbling along stuff. :) What genre will you be writing? *sees Symphony on NaNo* *adds to buddy list*

Ah, that makes sense, though some people around here like to listen to music while writing (I do sometimes).

That's cool! I don't spend enough time imagining my stories, which is interesting because I used to imagine stories all the time. I must try to do that more.

That's great! Congratulations twice over. :)

Do you have specific music you listen to while writing?

Thanks. =)

Yeah, I like some techno, folk metal, metal (I think), movie soundtracks...that sort of thing. Long as there are no lyrics. :D

lol. That's ok. You don't have to. ^_^

Very cool. What part of history? I'm writing fantasy: Giants, elves, and such. Nano buddy! What is your nano name?
