I know that some people on here have multiple planets in their fantasy uni/multi-verse with sentients on them, but have you considered having the concept of "Aliens" in your fantasy? Think of it, some superior race somehow arrives by falling from the sky, and attempts to invade?
(I actually got this idea from my 8-year-old brother :dieshappy:)

Aliens Vs. Elves. ;)

Seriously, though, I've actually thought about the aliens-in-fantasy idea a lot.

Cool! For me it's in the steeping stage--it might come up in my world, or not. :D

I haven't decided whether I'm going to use it or not, but it's an idea I'm considering. The movie Krull sort of used this idea.

I've heard it's very hard to mix Sci Fi and Fantasy, and do it well though.

Definitely an interesting idea! :)

Depends on what aspects of Aliens-within-fantasy you want to explore. If you're exploring the aliens and how they relate to the fantasy worlds but you won't be going in depth to other aspects of culture, cobha, language, etc. that might tie in with the aliens, then it goes in Peoples, Races, and Tribes. If you wish the thread to remain free to be able to enter those other places as well and become a catch-all aliens-in-fantasy thread, then here's the place. :) Someone correct me if I'm wrong. :)

An interesting idea... I'll have to think over this. :D

Yes. However, aliens don't necessarily have to be sci-fi. Most fantasy novels involve different kingdoms, so why not different planets?

Okay, interesting! I'm not surprised that the idea has at least in part been used before, but I hadn't heard of any examples.

I'm sure it is, but to me it doesn't make a difference (yet) because writing in general is hard for me to do well. ;) But I can see what you mean...
Yeah, I was thinking so too!

Would that not make it Sci Fi though? Or partly Sci Fi?

No I don't think so...because really its only similarity would be aliens (or beings from another planet, that might as well resemble other fantasy creatures), not necessarily high tech stuff.

I think it would depend on how the aliens travel, myself. I wouldn't call it SF if they're using magic to travel.

That's similar to what I was thinking. Also, I think it'd be more like fantasy sci-fi or something--sci-fi seems to be based in the real world as something that "could" happen in real life (or not really that much, but moreso than fantasy). So even fantasy sci-fi wouldn't be a real good term, but since we do think of aliens and space travel and high techyness as sci-fi type stuff, it'd get the point across well enough.
Anyway, I think if I had aliens in my fantasy world before the high tech age, I'd have them either arrive through a portal or something, or have a cobha/magic-based ship of a sort and then they wouldn't necessarily have sci-fi-esque weapons, etc.

It would depend on how you portrayed the aliens. They could use fantastical technology or magic, have a fantasy essence, and not be called "aliens."

The big thing is how you portray them. Sci-fi has it's humanoid Little Green Men with big bug eyes and antenna. If you portrayed them differently, it might be easier to avoid people thinking War of the Worlds meets Lord of the Rings.

For instance, what if they were not very humanoid at all? Or what if they were more troll like?

Good question. Or Elf-like.

The thought occurred to me that it could be similar to some myths and legends from around the world. The Tuatha de Dannan (I think I spelled that right.) came to Ireland from somewhere else. Maybe it was another planet. I also recall there were references in Sumerian mythology to beings who came in flying ships. In a fantasy story, a writer could do something similar. (Like they do on the History channel. ;) )

I was thinking portals would be a good way to keep it from being sci-fi as well, as long as it wasn't technology portals.

Yeah, great thoughts, Varon! I remember some stuff like that on the History channel.

I like the idea of elf-like aliens and portals. :D
I also like the idea of something coming out of the sky- maybe propelled by magic.
