Yes, I realize that this is a historical fiction character, but I completed this map for Seer's essence map challenge. I figured that a character from any genre of fiction would work. If you would rather me not post a historical fiction character and create another map of a fantasy character, however, I can. :D

I would also like to say that some of this is my impression of Janet. Some parts of Janet were not described directly, but I am trying to stay accurate to the book in what the author did describe.

Finally, I am still pretty new at essence mapping, so please feel free to rip this map apart and give me suggestions. One thing I noticed myself was I tend to use animals a lot, so could you try to give me some alternatives? ;) :D

Janet:

Body:
 Eyes:
Depth: child fascinated by life, deer caught in headlights, young owl, dependent young, dog playing tug-of-war
Sparkle: Stars in a dark night, reflected candlelight, skipping dancer
Smile: quaking Jell-O, soft meniscus, wavering arch, wooden beam
 Hair:
  Color: raven feathers, starless eclipse
Texture: wisps of threads, strings soft and fluffed by the wind
Motion: wind sock in the breeze, tree limbs playing with the wind, soft sweeping broom, plumb line in still air
 Face:
  Color: light clay, pear, parchment
Depth: wisdom, stone, far away, intertwined, a donkey
Texture: wrinkled paper, a baby, ill-lain sheets on a soft, welcoming bed
Motion: frozen in time, surge of energy, quickly drained pipe, house alarm
 Motion:
Grace: a panther, an ostrich, a kitten, a donkey
Strength: an offended kitten, a cylinder, a punch against chainmail
Speed: a slinking cat, a running bird

Spirit:
Quality: pure silk, a champagne diamond
Loyalty: the constant four seasons, the reoccurring moon phases
Pride: a bird with a newly found gem, several scratches soon healed and strong
Anger: clenched teeth, a sore eased by medicine
Fear: an apprehensive kitten, a mouse constantly looking for shelter, a strong tower with shaking walls
 Strength: a strong roman pillar

Mind:
Clarity: a river feeding into the ocean, focused energy, buzzing sounds
Depth: experience, child play, an owl,
 Knowledge: limited resources, primitive, wide
 Soul: open fields, mountaintop view
Logic: playful, values of a child, calm leader

Soul:
Depth: a well becoming built, a sponge
Passion: playful thoughts, spontaneous values, life-long principles
Strength: an army never to surrender, firm ground

The map format/categories were mostly from Raven of the Wood's essence map.

Do we have a post somewhere that has every category/subcategory posted so we can go there and get them instead of from other peoples posts? I feel like I may be missing some, and perhaps am not even formatting this correctly.

I love love that book, and I love Janet! Good job on the essence map; I especially like the Anger metaphors.

I like this, good job Captain Nemo!

I do not know who Janet is, but these are my favorite parts:

Body:
 Eyes:
Depth: deer caught in headlights, dependent young, dog playing tug-of-war
Smile: quaking Jell-O (I suppose you mean gel?), soft meniscus
 Hair:
  Color: starless eclipse
Texture: wisps of threads, strings soft and fluffed by the wind
Motion: soft sweeping broom, plumb line in still air
 Face:
Depth: far away, intertwined, a donkey
Texture: a baby, ill-lain sheets on a soft, welcoming bed
Motion: frozen in time, quickly drained pipe
 Motion:
  Grace: a kitten, a donkey
Strength: an offended kitten, a cylinder, a punch against chainmail

Spirit:
Quality: pure silk, a champagne diamond
Pride: a bird with a newly found gem, several scratches soon healed and strong
Anger: clenched teeth, a sore eased by medicine

And my especially favorite parts:

Body:
 Eyes:
Depth: deer caught in headlights, dependent young, dog playing tug-of-war
 Hair:
  Color: starless eclipse
Motion: plumb line in still air
 Face:
Texture: a baby, ill-lain sheets on a soft, welcoming bed
Motion: frozen in time, quickly drained pipe
 Motion:
Strength: an offended kitten, a cylinder, a punch against chainmail

Spirit:
Quality: pure silk, a champagne diamond

My favorite of all:

 Hair:
Motion: plumb line in still air

My favorite metaphore without regard for its application:

quickly drained pipe

Is Janet some one who is old, but seems very young, younger than twenty years? That is the concrete impression I had from the map.

From my recollection, she's about twelve or so in this story.

And, Cap'n, this is beautiful! I loved the story, and I think you did a great job capturing Janet's essence even from the rather limited description in the book. Your metaphors in particular were extremely striking. Makes me want to try one myself!
