Zirg: the name of a fictional country from Prince of Yen.

Zurg: something from Toy Story that wants to kill Buzz Lightyear.

I've never seen toy story; I plead ignorance to the thing. However, from the moment I changed the country's name I've had people tell me that's all they can think of. But, I've also had people tell me it's not a problem. I was going to change it, but someone said it was fine, so I decided not to change it, and someone said something about Buzz Lightyear. So, thus a choice must be made:

How do you feel about the name Zirg for a fairytale country? Will you always and forever associate it with Toy Story?

What do you know? 100% say 'No'. ;)

Though I have seen the Toy Story 1 and 2 (and parts of 3), that was a long time ago. Because of my distance from the movies and dislike of them when I was a kid (please no one berate me for that -- 'twould be off topic ;)) the name has almost no effect on me.

I will briefly think of Toy Story, but almost immediately move on and embrace the fact that this is a completely different entity than the character of Toy Story.

I would think about it, yes. I probably wouldn't dwell on it. When I first read Zurg, I would say to myself "That's really close to Zirg from Toy Story", and I might wonder if that is where you got it from, but I would eventually move on.

To me Zirg seems a bit space-agey, if I where you I'd probably want to change it to something else. Your choice, do what you think suits it best.

The person who wander away from 'passive' righteousness has no other choice but to live by 'works' righteousness. If he does not depend on the work of Christ, he must depend on his own work.So we must teach and continually repeat the truth of this 'passive' or 'Christian' righteousness so that Christians continue to hold to it and never confuse it with 'works' righteousness - Martin Luther

I like it Vanya, I guess it depends how relevant it is to your story.
~Aleena
P.s Airi, you had them mixed up. Zurg is the thing from toy story, and Zirg is Vanya's country.

(and finally, although it doesn't sound nearly as close:)
Zorg: An online space strategy game. Also a villain from the movie Fifth Element.

This would seem to corroborate Josiah's assessment of it being somewhat "space-agey".

Perhaps insert a vowel between the 'r' and 'g'?
Uh..."Zirug"..."Zureg"..."Zareg"...? :?

I didn't even think of that.

I read this thread title and thought 'Toy Story!' Partly because I didn't know Zurg in Toy Story was spelled Zurg and not Zirg.

I'll probably always and forever think of Toy Story. :P I can't help it. Things like that, especially from when I was younger, stick in my head. So I would say change the name.
