In my own little world there is a beautiful sky. At night the stars are utterly stunning. I'm not sure what to do with the moon though. It's between having two smaller moons orbiting each other (so you always see them, up and over in a circle.) But I really like the moon for what it is so I'm not sure if I should have two small ones... it's that or one really big one which would be cool but I'd like to be original. What do you all think?

The two small moons would make for some great eclipses. I think. Not sure how that would work. :) I like the idea; it would be interesting to see how you do it.

Wow, that is a really cool idea! I like it, but I understand your dilemma. Maybe in different regions of the world, there could be different moons, like the constellations in the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Or their could be both, but most people don't see one or the other because they aren't up that late. If you don't use the 2 moons idea, could I use it? I'm kidding. ;)

There's an idea. A northern hemisphere moon and a southern one. Not sure how that would work, but it could be interesting.

Hmm, ya know, I really like that. I'll have to mess with the densities of the moons so the tides don't get all messed up, but if I have the small orbiting moons in the north and a larger one in the south... and then when the sun is behind one set of the moons... and weird eclipses... I LIKE THIS! I should make them different colors too...

That would be really cool! Maybe the smaller moon is too weak to have an effect on the tides, so they mostly come from the larger one. This is a really cool idea.

Definitely. I like the idea of two moons, especially if they aren't just white-gray.

You should make one of them red and the other pink. That would make for some interesting plot bits and comments from your readers. ;)

It seems like I've seen two moons, one larger and one smaller beside it, in a video game (I don't remember what though... Final Fantasy maybe?), but I still love how it looks.

I love the idea of two moons! It sounds great and very original :)

Ooh, this sounds great! The only other thing you'd have to figure is rotation, and how that would work.

It wouldn't be all that difficult to get the moons to change color either. Atmospheric conditions on the moons as well as changing temperatures could accomplish that. I came up with that idea as a plea that the moons not be pink, because I am pretty sure no guys in your world could stand having a pink moon all the time ;)

Would they notice if they were used to the moon being that color?

My thoughts exactly, plus only modern guys who aren't secure in their manliness object to pink. Pink used to be a guys color, you know.

Alright here's a picture of the North Twins and the names and meanings of all the moons.

Kyril Addomir: Lord of Guidance.

Kyria Marwen: Lady of the Waves.

Arawan Namsyt: King of the South Land

read this after you look at the picture-> Yes, I made the Lord of Guidance pink. Here are my perfectly good reasons.
1. I already planned to have a pink moon before I even asked anyone about it.
2. Until the 1940s, pink was considered a variation of the manly color RED. I'm just trying to be realistic people.
3. The moons are going to be a light color. Pink is an easy light color for our eyes to pick up without darkening the face of the moon and killing the brightness with a blood moon.
4. There is no pink moon south of Lamar. If I have a character that is allergic to pink he'll be down there.

No problem. :)

Another thing that might affect the hue of moons would be the pigmentation in the rocks.

Yeah, I'm not any good at making up my own graphics. I just wanted to get the gist of it down somewhere.

@Sir Emeth: I was figuring pigments on the actual surface of the moon.

I have three moons, but I have one that is a lot less dense but looks bigger and the smaller two are further away so it balances out.

In Rohl there are three moons. One is about the size and distance of our moon, but the other two are smaller and farther away, so they don't affect things as much. They are different colors too.

Haha, nope, Rohl. I actually think Rohl is cooler than Ithelak in many ways.

The gray moon goes like our moon does, another of the other two goes perpendicular to its axis, across the sky, and is smaller, and the other goes in yet another direction further out. Each moon, and the sun, is connected with the four races.

I'm starting to think that I must have taken someone's idea without knowing it! ;) I'll probably use a twist off of your idea, just to keep from confusing the tides.

I don't even want to mess with the tides so I'm sticking with one moon, personally. I know, I know. Uncreative. But that's what I'm doing.

(and I must say, I resent your signature, Milly. ;) )

I'm not really sure how the tides work, so, to keep it simple, one moon controls the tides, and the other two aren't dense enough to do anything to them. :dieshappy: It's a lot simpler that way. ;)

That's also how I manage to have three moons, the two small ones are denser and the greatest is not dense at all, so it's for light purposes.

The difference is that in my world, the two that do not control the tides are smaller than the third moon.

Why don't you combine them? How about having two big moons orbiting each other! Hope I helped! :D

I already have the moons named and everything, and I think it'd be like cutting off my foot to get rid of one of them now. But thanks, Misty! :D
