Greetings,

Attached is a map of Ithelak, including several main cities and fortresses. There is a whole continent missing, however, because I discovered its existence after I drew the map. It should be located in between Aschu and Ecroi, and be shaped like a five pointed star (roughly), with a massive caldera in the center, surrounded by high mountains. I call it Geirrion. I am still developing it though. Any comments or questions are welcome: every little bit of land on there has a history and a story!

Amazing map! I like how you put all the little islands in and even marked the equator. I look forward to seeing Geirrion.

I am looking forward to it too. It is so cool to have your own world where you can explore endlessly. Thanks for the encouragement!

By they way... that version of the map is not exactly to scale. Imlen Inui is should be about 0.75 the size it is shown there. And it leaves out the poles: Ithelak is actually taller than that. :)

Quick question...how did you make your map? Thanks.

I drew it. :)

First I imagined what it looked like, then I drew very rough sketches of the general feel for the different places. Then I drew them in more solidly, then more detailed. Then I ran a compatibility check with my story to make sure it works, made edits, then drew the finished product. Basic fractalling. I really do need to write that article... :?

Let's just put it this way...art/drawing/anything that involves artistic skills are practically impossible for me. I might try sometime, but I have no geographical acumen.

I see... well, keep trying! You might surprise yourself one day. Maps are about the easiest thing there is to draw, which is why I was able to do mine. :)

Well, you already know that I like the map. :) But I thought I might as well say so on here, too.

I like the map.

There. I said it. :D

(sorry, I am a bit tired at the moment...)

Well, you're welcome. But reading over it again, um, yes, I was really tired. :D

Haha, that is funny. I have been tired for the last several days... but that is off-topic.

So how did you decide where the ocean was? I'm working on developing my map for Eivylazia, and I have names and basic geography figured out, but I still need a little help. Any suggestions?

Sheesh, no way I could draw a map... I'm sure I can't even accurately describe the land as I write the story without contradicting myself. :P

Okay, I just looked at your map again, Jay. I drew one last night, and the only water is an ocean on the west and northwest shore and a few rivers, specifically the Great River of Sylvyr. I wondered if that needs changed, in all of your opinions?

I have a map, but it's not the whole continent, just one country (Arenia). I could probably put it on. Do you just scan it and attach it to a post?

Yes. I would suggest starting a new thread for each map, though, to aid in organization of the room and threads. I will be looking forward to it!

I didn't start with the oceans, I started with the continents. When they were somewhat finished, I placed them on the globe in my mind, and then drew the map. The oceans took care of themselves. :)

That is fine. It really depends on your story, and how much of a world you want. I like having a whole globe, but that is not necessary (see Middle Earth). You could make what you have a piece of the world, and then explore other lands. It is lots of fun. :)

Wow, it looks great Emeth! :D Points for originality, so many maps copy a continent of some sort. This looks truly unique.
