A prism sitting on a dusty black shelf A band screaming their lungs out with nobody to hear A small deer hiding amongst the brambles Tweedy pinstripes on an old suit A golden cage around a black heart That one laundry chair Old photographs A boy king The smell of an old book while it’s still new Worlds colliding in fire and chunks of rock A young man chasing lovestruck after a dryad An innocuous passerby with a gun in his pocket The magic hour between dusk and dawn A whispered “Goodnight” The thrill of going places you’ve never been by experiencing them through postcards A battered locket with mother-of-pearl linings Dry cigarettes The outskirts of a city where the lights go out at nine Quiet smiles at one’s own jokes Brighter smiles at the jokes of others A crystal ball cracked into the shape of a heart, with lightning-shaped fractures and the splintered pieces like gold on the floor The satisfaction of the end of a mystery novel The coolness of an autumn evening, with shooting stars overhead Fire trapped a jar Rain hiding the trees from sight |
