That’s right; we have just one week before the Fourth Holy Worlds Coloring Contest launches on July 1st, guys. So, according to ususal custom, I am here to stir up some pre buzz chatter, and also to lay out all the rules and so forth, that way everything is ready for the 1st.
Now, as many of you know, I kicked things off a bit differently this time around. As promised, I did create the Legendary Creatures series, comprising of 5 pieces of art. However, I wanted to narrow down the number of categories to three, based off of the statistics of the other 5 (including sci-fi and historical’s coloring contests) contests we have done. So, I had all of you weigh in on which three of the five pieces in the series you were most interested in coloring. Here’s what were chosen.
Legendary Creatures: Gryphon
Legendary Creatures: Phoenix
Legendary Creatures: Pegasus
The voting was very close, showing me that many people were conflicted over which ones were their favorites. In fact, the Dragon, who was my favorite of the bunch, did not make it into our coloring contest, something I lamented greatly. That being said, due to the sorrow many people have expressed to me over not being able to color all of the pieces, I will be releasing the coloring pages for Legendary Creatures: Dragon, and Legendary Creatures: Unicorn, after the contest has wrapped up.
So, now that we have all of that out of the way, let us get down to business.
Our format will be the same as always, but for any new members who may not know how things work, and for you old ones who may need a refresher, here’s the submission format:
There will be three categories in which you can enter. Legendary Creatures: Gryphon, Legendary Creatures: Phoenix, and Legendary Creatures: Pegasus. A winner will be chosen from each of these categories and their pieces featured on the blog. From these three winners I (with the help of your lovely judges AzlynRose and Celestria) will choose one ultimate winner. This ultimate winner will be given the choice between any of my original drawings in the Holy World’s Art gallery.
Now, last time I broke from my tradition of using themes for you all to work off of in your picture. While that worked, I have found that I like having something to aid us judges in execution. So, for this Coloring Contest, we will be resuming our use of themes. So, what are those themes? Well, here is the twist. The theme for each piece is the creature themselves. Okay, don’t be confused. It’s quite simple. We have three very strong creatures of old that we can portray, so I want you all to keep that in mind. Try really bringing out the creature, focusing on the legend behind the creatures. Try seeing if you can add that extra special something that captures the essence of the creature. For example, the Pegasus comes from the Roman and Greek legends, correct? So, try bringing that to light in the piece. Or how about the Phoenix. The Phoenix represents new birth and new life. Regeneration. It’s a symbol. So see if you can help further bring that truth home in your portrayal.
Remember, you do not have to stress over a theme. You are free to just color the pieces and post them, if you wish. It doesn’t disqualify you. But, if you want a leg up on the competition, then take the challenge of the theme.
Rules:There are no limitations to how you portray your piece.
You may use any form of drawing materials (paint, colored pencil, markers, so on), but it must be a natural form of medium, not computer generated.
There is no limitation on submissions. You are allowed to submit as many entries as you like for as many categories (you can participate in all three) as you wish.
You must be a member of one of the three HW forums to be counted towards judging. We celebrate younger siblings participating and encourage you to post their work for us to admire, but we cannot count them towards judging.
Times:The Coloring Contest begins July 1st and will go until the end of August 1st, at which time submissions will close. Judging will be done in a phasing system, as I have done every other time, and the winners will be announced in a special HW blog post, complete with judges’ comments, on the 9th of August.
How to Enter: After printing out the available coloring pages (available on the 1st and not before) and completing them with your own artistic rendition, you will then upload your pictures to the HW art gallery and embed the pictures into the appropriate thread. There will be three Submissions Threads, each titled by the name of the picture they will be housing.
Legendary Creatures: Gryphon,
Legendary Creatures: Phoenix, and
Legendary Creatures: Pegasus.
Please give credit to the art series and competition in the Art Gallery Description Box when uploading.
Hints and Reminders:The ability to think outside the box and portray that on paper will go a long way towards helping you win. Celestria, Azlyn, and I are not judging based off of who has the neatest coloring (although that does help you). We are looking for the eye of an artist; the talent of being able to portray what you (the artist) imagine and portray it well. So just because you are young and don’t think you can draw well, don’t let that stop you! Have fun and be creative.
All entries will be judged on creativity, presentation, and neatness. Don’t let the typical look of a Legendary Creature put you in a box (although traditional portrayals can still be used with artistic flare and wow us judges).
Also, I would recommend all contestants read the judges’ comment in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Coloring Contest Winners Announcement blog posts. Many tips were given to the winners and runner ups about how they could have bettered their art, thus giving you guys an edge if you apply those comments to your own art when drawing.
Have fun, guys! I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!
And since we are now free to chat here in official chatter, you all are welcome to talk about the contest, or ask any questions you might have, right here in this thread.
