I know I am still brand new to the site, but I've been thinking about a blog post that looks at aspects of Tolkien's work that most fantasy writers seem to miss. My working title is: "Tolkien Revisited: Rethinking Tolkien Emulation"
The basic points would be things like: the kinds of protagonists he used (and their Biblical similarities), LOTR & The Hobbit vs. The Silmarillion, his linguistic background and it's lessons for us (write what you love), and rethinking "The Quest."
Let me know what you think.

I like it! Sounds like a fresh perspective.

Thanks Jay!
I'll try and post it on the Submissions board as soon as I can. Unfortunately, I'm behind on homework and have mid-terms this week, so I'll have to put it off for a bit. (Sometimes I think Bible College is more of a beast than secular schools, but it's what I get for listening to God's call to full-time ministry.) Hopefully, I'll have the post up by next week, but no promises.
In Christ,
Jordan

The Rainbow in the Storm- My Blog

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

Works in progress:

The Diegosian Mark, 115,600 words (Preparing for Publication)
The Diegosian Rider, 121,400 words (Finished)
The Diegosian Warrior, 15,000 (In Progress)
