I keep finding that Global Announcements show up as "new posts" on the Forum Index in whatever room is at the top of the screen. For members of the forum team that is not the Announcements room, which can be very confusing. I am disappointed when I look into a forum team room and find that someone said three words in "What Happened at the Convention?" Is there something that can be done about this?

I find this annoying as well.

However, I have a grudge against Global Announcements as a whole, because half the time they won't mark as read. I don't know if there is a workaround, but I think we might overuse Global Announcements a bit. :book:

Global announcement do mark as read, if you look at them in the forum section that you originally did. For me, I always check global announcements in the Council Chambers. That way they always mark as read. If you look at a global announcement when you are viewing new posts, it will take you to the section where the user who posted on the thread, posted in. So often it will not mark as read.

If all else fails, click the "Mark all forums read" button at the bottom of the thread's forum, and it will go away.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

Using global announcements is one of our last-ditch efforts to get people to read important stuff (like things posted in the must-read-everything-in-here spot). They aren't optimum, so any other ideas are welcome. :)

What Jay said. They're glitchy, I hate them, but we started using them more to try to get people to read them. Because of their glitchyness they drive you crazy until you do read them, eh?

Reiyen, there is a protocol about how long a Global announcement should stay up. "What Happened at the Convention" was up there too long. :P I don't know if it's been written out anywhere, how to find the trick moment when it should come down, but I can elaborate on that somewhere more useful if you'd like. In other words, in that instance, you could have demoted the thread. :D

Can we also have better guidelines about WHAT goes up there? 'What happened at the convention' didn't need to be there as it was not even super important. :P
