One of HW’s goals is to challenge each other, taking to heart the verse of “iron sharpening iron”. The beauty of HW is the fact that we all come from different backgrounds and views, yet all hold one thing in common. We love Christ and wish to serve Him in both our writing, and the material that we fill our minds with.

With this in mind, HW is launching a controversial blog post, written by our very own BushMaid and sanctioned by “the powers that be”. The blog post will be dealing with the wildly popular Harry Potter series, addressing the controversy of what the book is purporting, and not the actual book itself.

Because HW recognizes that there are two sides to every coin, we are opening up the floor to anyone who feels the need to write a counter post postulating the opposing view. However, all articles submitted will be subjected to the same criteria and editing that BushMaid's article underwent before posting on the blog.

We would like to ensure that the quality of our blog posts remain intact. Because of this commitment, and the inflammatory subject at hand, we want to ensure that our writers present their views factually. Articles submitted must be articulated clearly, and presented in the same manner as BushMaid’s. All submissions should be prayed over, as this one has been, and should be written with much care and respect towards the opposing position. The Blog reviewers (Philadelphia and I) will have the right to require alteration to any posts, should the subject not fall under the requirements.

It was suggested that we not air this type of blog post on HW; however, we trust that our members will view this article with maturity and an open heart, looking for the Lord’s conviction, and not following their own desires. One of the issues that I personally have with Harry Potter is the fact that Christians become so divisive over this book and turn against one another. We are all praying that our members do not degenerate to this level of ungodly behavior, but state their views and convictions without malice and heated passion.

It should also be noted that BushMaid is not posting this article in an effort to stir her fellow brethren up. It is done out of a concern and conviction that the Lord has given her to share with others. She has said all she means to say on this subject, and desires that others will take her words, search the scriptures, and ask the Lord of leading. Therefore, we ask that our members not try and refute her post in comments on the forum, or the blog. The best way to discuss your ideas, as opposed to heatedly debating, is to write a counter article as stated above. This will allow you to think clearly, and have an outside opinion to help lead the conversation. If the HW leaders feel the need to step in, there is no question that they will.

May your hearts be open and supple, trusting in the Lord to show you His desire for you on this subject.

In Christ,

Airianna Valenshia

Due to the fact that Aussie has a lot of supporting documentation in her article, we are actually going to link to the google doc. Place your comments and edits here on the forum. Thank you.

Okay.

Is a schedule for blog contributors posted anywhere? Or will we just get a notification?

Here are my (minor) edits :)

Quote:
“How shall we deceive them?” The demons must have hissed to their master.

Methinks The shouldn't be capitalized, but I am never sure...

Quote:
All in all, I it boils down to power

Think you're missing a word here. Or that 'I' is superfluous.

Quote:
But who's power does it promote?

Should be 'whose.'

I'd also recommend indenting the Scripture verses so that they are set apart from the main content. Just an idea, though.

Other than that; looks great to me! :) You've clearly put a lot of time and thought into this and I think it is excellent. Good job!

Very good post. I'm curious, though. Who here has read Harry Potter?

Terra, it might be best to start a thread about this in the Watchtower :)

*agrees with Andrew * I would like to mention though that although Aussie has not read the books, she is more than capable and qualified to deal with this subject. As is anyone else who has not read the books.

Thankyou for pointing out those things, Eruheran. :) I don't think the doc will allow me to edit it though... Should I be the one to edit it?

I'd be willing to write a counter post but I have read the books and researched the occult and read bios on Rowling and don't remember that many references so I don't know if it's what you're looking for.

I'm willing to read any counter posts anyone wants to write up, so long as they are based in fact, and have the same humble attitude that this post does. Aussie subjected her article to any critique I gave, or any changes I felt were necessary. She did it with a mature attitude. I'm willing to work with whoever feels a counter post is necessary. We don't feel we have to have a counter post, but we wanted to open the door up for any who wanted to show biblically why they feel Harry Potter is a good book for people to read.

I will fix those errors and then post this, Aussie.
