I have a question for you writers.

As you probably know, I can edit posts. Normally, on other forums, I would just go in and edit whenever I find anything I consider to be a mistake. However, occasionally there are things that are not exactly mistakes, as in typos, but they could use a few changes. Like commas that should be added, words that could be omitted, sentences that could be rearranged, etc...

Since this is a writing forum, I am assuming that part of our purpose is to improve our writing. So, I am wondering if you all would like editors and moderators to PM you with ideas and suggestions on ways to make your writing even better, instead of just "fixing" your posts for you.

What do you all think?

Carissa,

That is exactly what I was hoping the Forum Team could do, if they have time. Simple editing here and there when it is obvious that it was carelessness is needed, but constructive assistance is very much needed as well. Otherwise, everyone will just forget about editing themselves, relying on you. Not good. :)

By the way, everyone else, I am watching your posts to see who would make good candidates for the forum team. So do good jobs!

With joy and peace in Christ,
Jay Lauser

I do have a question:

What about asterisks? Are those accepted?
A lot of times, those are used to indicate an action. Ex: *bows*

Thanks,
~Daniel

(I would appreciate any suggestions to improve my writing. :) )

Daniel,

I would suggest that you limit your use of them, if you use them at all, outside of the Courtyard. Inside there it is not as crucial. We want to keep a professional and quality atmosphere here. Make sense?

Yes, it does.

Thanks!

I definitely think that it would be a good idea. It would be especially helpful since we are learning how to write for God's glory, building up our skills in the technical parts of writing would be a great thing to pay attention to as well as content.

Another thing to keep in mind is that there is a whole room in this forum dedicated to the discussion of good writing. So if there is anything that anyone has learned in regards to good writing, resources for good writing, or if you notice a common error in use in this board, then feel free to start a thread there talking about it. That should also be a big help, I think.

Thanks for reminding us, Jay. And also clarifying that it can be used for things like that. I shall be probably use that room of the forum more than the other rooms. :)

Glad to hear that you all are open to writing ideas and suggestions! I am not a super good writer or anything, but since I don't really have much else to do on here, I will enjoy sharing what I know about writing. :)

Carissa,

Don't feel out of the loop! We need you!

You are welcome, though, for clarifying that. If you (or anyone else) have any more questions about what or where or how to do things do not be shy to ask. :)

With joy and peace in Christ,
Jay Lauser

Jay,

Thanks. That is nice of you to say that. :)

I guess we'll see if I am really of any use.

Don't worry, I will ask if I have any other questions.

Carissa

In answer to your original question, Carissa, I would appreciate any advice you will give. I realize that some of my posts are probably not perfect structurally, gramatically, or otherwise, so any corrections or advice would be greatly appreciated. Good idea!

Okay, sounds good! My posts are not perfect, either. I still have a lot to learn! But I will gladly pass on to you and the others what I have already learned from writers far better than I. :)

Great. I'll look forward to being corrected! Hopefully we can all improve our writing skills.
