Greetings,

In the interest of maintaining a professional demeanor, enabling us to broadcast our community presence, and be generally cool, I would like to provide Holy Worlds with its own domain name. This will cost about 10 US dollars or so. I do not have the budget to do this myself, but if y'all chipped in, I might be able to get one. If this is something that you want to do, let me know.

With joy and peace in Christ,
Jay Lauser

Sorry, but I can't contribute. However, I think it is a good idea, and it certainly makes the site look more professional.

How would we get you the money? I don't have a credit card or anything, but if there's another way and everyone agrees with it then I'll do what I can.

Elestar, people can still wire money I believe, and you could always send a money order.

But usually, forums have ways that allow members to pay directly to the host.

That last is what I was thinking. I was going to figure that out if there is enough people who would want to do it.

I can contribute some money to this... I'll pay whatever is needed after the others have given their money.

I'll see what I can do. It won't be much, but I've got a little tithe money, and I think this would count towards furthering God's love (through our writing), don't you think? :)

That would be between you, your parents, and God. I would think that there are other, better uses for tithe money than a domain name (I was thinking of it more like a Christmas present to ourselves :) ). But that is up to you.

Post subject:  Re: Domain name

Well, after some research, it is looking like we can get one for less than $20 definitely, but probably not under $10. Is everyone still in? We are looking to get one for two years, as that seems to work best.

Oh, what we are going to do is have my father buy it with his paypal account, and then have y'all reimburse him. Simple, safe, secure. :)

Post subject:  Re: Domain name

Alright, another update.

If we want to get holyworlds.info instead of .com or .org, we will only have to pay about $4, which my father will happily pay out of pocket without looking for donations. Of course, if we want a better namespace, we need to pay a bit more ($16 or so for .org, and $19 or so for .com).

If we get a .com or a .org name we get a higher listing, more searches, better impressions, etc. In other words: more professional. A .info name is less 'up there', which is why it is cheaper.

It is up to you what you want to pay. What do you want for Christmas? :)

I think it sounds cool, but are you sure that we don't want to get a permanent domain name?

Post subject:  Re: Domain name

Is there some way to get a permanent domain name? Although I don't know how much that would cost (if the price is outrageous, then I'd forget about it), it might work better. I don't know a whole lot about setting up websites, but I wouldn't want something that would disappear or stop functioning if I didn't get the money (just my opinion. You might do things differently than I would.)

Sorry I wouldn't be able to help with the cost.

Post subject:  Re: Domain name

There is no such thing as a 'permanent' domain name insofar as I can find. The closest thing is a 100 year registration, which costs around $1000. Besides, how do we know that five years from now the technology will change so drastically that urls will be non-existent? It is possible.

A two year registration is cheap and reliable enough for us at this stage. Eventually a 5-year registration would be a good idea if we get going enough.

If it is not to late I'd like to share my opinion on this.

I know it cost a lot to get a domain name, and I don't have any money that I can send to help support it but if we are going for professionalism I'd wait till we get money for the .com address. I know .info sites are cheaper but when I look for sites using a search engine the .info address are normally one's with less information and professionalism so I normally skip those.

We agree, and are getting a .org domain name for that reason. Eventually we might get a .com name as well. But that is later. Thanks for the input!

We now have a domain name! http://www.holyworlds.org is fully functional!

It cost a little bit over $19, but all you need to reimburse is the $19. You can paypal it to [email protected].

Nope, they are staying (for now). You can just use either link to get to them.

That should only happen once. Your browser will figure it out if you tell it to.

I fixed the bug with the cookies. :) Sorry about that.

Remember that y'all need to help donate if you are able! :)

For you to remain logged in, you need to be using the new url. Otherwise it will spit you back out again. :)

If you are still having troubles, remember to clear the stored cookies for the site.

I couldn't get signed in, but when I typed in the new URL and went to the forums from there, it worked fine. I didn't have to clear any cookies or anything.
