Improvements to the HW chat

As some of you may have noticed, Emeth and I have recently made a bunch of improvements to the Holy Worlds chatroom.

New stuff:

If you're in a different tab, and somebody says something in the chatroom, you'll hear a faint sound, like a sword being drawn.

If you use Google Chrome, you're in a different tab, and somebody says something, you'll see a notification that looks like this:

(Note that you have to enable this first)

If you're in a different tab, and somebody says something, the tab title will get an asterik (*) in front of the title, allowing you to see that somebody said something.

If you have any issues with the chatroom in any browser, please let me know. (Remember to include your browser name and version number!) And if there's any other features you think would benefit the chat, be sure to tell me!

When I load into chat I get this faint gray text at the bottom of the screen.
I am running windows XP pro, sp3, 32 bit. I using Chrome 9.0.597.83 beta.

(Also, I might just be living up to my blond hair color, but where is the setting to enable the cool popup notification thing?)

The asterisk never goes away for me...I'm assuming it should, since otherwise it would only be useful once. I'm using Firefox version 3.6.13.

In firefox is there a way to make the new messages make the tab glow blue, like gmail and facebook etc...?

If the asterisk thingie was working, it would do this.

It's debug output. Ignore it.

Wow! That's amazing. I will have to play with this. (Sword being drawn... that's so clever.

Wonder if I'll be able to hear it over my epic movie music?) Thanks for encouraging us all to spend more time in the chat room.

I need to try Google Chrome...

I hear it sometimes. It's really quiet if you don't have your sound way up.

You have to be in another tab for the sound to work.

Sometimes that happens if your browser isn't done loading the page. Try refreshing.

What kind of internet connection do you have? I know some people with dial-up had problems viewing the chat room, and slow connections or old web browsers may be a factor.
