So, I've been noticing that some blogs have music that plays along as you read the entries.

Do you think we might want someone from Holy Worlds to write a score, or find something appropriate? Or do you think that would make everything less professional?

Please, no!!!

I'm sorry, when I go to a blog that has music, my first reaction is to shut the tab. I really don't know what to expect from blogmusic (some people use bad stuff -- I understand that HW would be clean, but other people who just stumble across wouldn't know that) and it uses up my computer resources/internet speed, and most of the time either I already have music on or else I need the room to be quiet.

Besides, my brother says it's unprofessional. ;D

There are my 2 cents. :D

I agree! I personally hate when there's music on a blog, for the reasons previously stated by Melody.

Nothing against the playlists that some people have, of course. As long as the music only plays if the reader chooses to turn it on, I don't have a problem with it. But I don't like stuff that plays automatically.

I think sometimes background music is appropriate; like the O'Carolyn site that plays O'Carolyn's music; but most of the time it's not. And I agree with Melody, most often there's already music playing and it clashes. Badly. :)

I incline to agree with everybody else. Perhaps if we had a small button on the sidebar that we could push to start a song, that would be OK.

A series of posts with music that we find or write could add some musical ambiance, without being annoying. :)

Please, no music! I agree that maybe some music in posts that users could choose to turn on would be OK, but please no music coming on automatically! :D

No music, my opinion.

Automatic Music: Ban, unprofessional, etc. Not to mention that it scares the tar out of me when my speakers are turned up.

A Playlist: Better. It could even been made to look professional, with a little work.

No Music: I haven't heard any complaints about the lack of music. Honestly, I would prefer a playlist to no music, but the status quo is acceptable.

I happen to know some actual "fantasy" music, as well.

I normally check the blog during my lunch break at work, and I'm sure other people do as well. It would be extremely unprofessional if I were to suddenly have fantasy music playing when I went to read the blog (even though I am permitted to use my hour however I desire). It's just a thought, obviously I could turn my speakers to mute before looking at the blog, but if you have someone new looking at it then they won't know until it is too late.

Post subject:  Re: Background Music?

well, maybe this is kind of obvious since I suggested it.:D But I really like at least having the option to play music.:) I think it's a nice feature!

But yeah. That COULD get kind of annoying too, I suppose.:D

*edit* on the other hand, we could have a "button" or something where users could turn the music on if they wanted.:D jthe default could be off, and then if they want some ambience they allow it. just a thought.

You don't have that problem if you use a playlist with an on-off user switch. Which is what I'm advocating. Preset to off, the reader can turn it on if they want.

Maybe we could do something like that with the music for this CD we're supposed to be working on. An excuse to promote it. :D

Post subject:  Re: Background Music?

That could work, but I like the option of the music vs. the music automatically starting.

Well, yes, I agree with that.:D

There is a thread over in the Arts Guild specifically geared to fantasy music. Do you think I should post something over there about looking for composers, or do we want to leave this alone for a while still?

I think we will wait until the album idea has gotten a little more under way first.
