Confused, are we supposed to not mention our category so as not to skew things? Or what? My list, minus my personal category (which would be at the top even if it wasn't my category, BTW):

Description
Drabble
Hook
Poetry

I need to add "drabble" to my spellchecker.

No, you can mention your category, just don't let that sway you because you want to see what your competition submitted and what the judges had to say about your work :)

Story hooks are very brutal. Mostly because I haven't seen the full stories. :D

Okay, here's the order I'd like to see them in:

1. Short Story
2. Description
3. Hook
4. Drabble
5. Poetry

I really don't mind, though; I kind of just stuck them in a random order. :)

As a judge, I'd say I enjoyed the drabbles and short stories best.

1. Drabbles
2. Story Hooks
3. Descriptions
4. Poetry
5. Short Story

Do the non-winners and non-runner-up..ers ( :P ) get comments from the judges as well? (That would be me, lol)

I'd like drabbles and short stories first, in either order. :) I haven't read many drabbles, so it would be interesting to read them to start with! :D

'K. In that case (and yes, this is honest, I love short stories - they have a completeness to them):

Short Stories
Description
Drabble
Hook
Poetry

Okay guys, I've averaged everyone's votes and thus far the entries will be posted on the blog in this order:

Short Stories
Hooks
Drabbles
Poems
Creature Descriptions

I'm hoping to get the blog post and judges comments up earlier tomorrow when my Mom is not using her computer, but we shall see. :P Computer crashes are a pain! They interrupt your whole life ;)

So, did anyone else actually enter a Creature Description? It doesn't seem like it 's a hugely popular topic.

It was not as popular a topic as the others were, despite the fact that I liked the Creature Descriptions topic. ;)

Which actually surprises me, because I know a lot of people were talking about entering creature descriptions.

I'd like to ship everything on Tuesday, so if you haven't got your address to me yet, please try to do so by then. :D

Yeah, it was second on my list. ..

Just to get this straight, you are posting on the blog/forum one category at a time, one entry at a time, correct?

Yes ma'am. I will post the winner of a category first, then the runner up the following week, before moving on to the next grouping.

Statistical information!
(I love statistics)

18 people wrote twelve thousand, two hundred and fifty seven words. Judges and participants came together across five countries and twelve states. 18 entries were divided into the following categories:

Drabble: 7
Short story: 4
Story Hook: 4
Poems: 2
Creature Descriptions: 1

Again, thanks to all who participated!

LOL. I think I'd prefer to think I beat twenty submissions to the runner-up spot. ;)

Five countries?

Oooh! Let me guess...Australia, England, USA, Ireland, and, (whoever I'm forgetting, forgive me.) The states would be Georgia, Florida, Illinois, California, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, rngh! Just too hard. I give up.

I have just returned from my tiny community post office. I caused quite a stir with my large stack of packages going to such a wide diversity of places, even out of the country!

All that to say, I shipped the prizes today. You can all relax, as the contest is now officially over. (I think.) I would, of course, be greatly relieved to hear when ya'll receive them, and I expect to see some measure of crowing or reviewing.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, congratulations again to everyone who participated!!

It will be more than a week before it gets to you, Bush. It takes a month for things to get here from Canada or China, so I imagine it takes a while to get from here across seas too.

In case anyone is horribly curious and doesn't already know, I'm in Kentucky, so you can calculate how long it will take your things to get to you from here. :D

I've actually had good success with mail to Australia. Usually goes quickly, First Class does. France went smoothly, too... and the Netherlands.

I'm guessing it will be a few days before mine, as I'm in Florida. It only takes two-three days for something to get from Michigan to here, so I estimate about the same or so. ;)

My mom pointed out that the US probably has a much more organized mail system then the other countries, so we hypothesize that it's quicker to send mail out of the US than for it to come in. She also pointed out that Australia is more 'civilized' than China.

It will be an interesting study.

That's what I was thinking. Things probably go out a heap more quickly than coming in... but we shall see, I guess.

I don't think it can get there any earlier than two days. The books came to me from Nashville, which is only three hours drive, and took two days. Two days is fast. It will be at least two days. :D

I find everyone's anticipation hilarious...
