Hey everyone!

So, here is where you can nominate stories for our new feature on the podcast, Round Table Discussions.

You can find out more about the Round Table Discussions here.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them, too.

We're going to start a list in this post of nominations, and we will erase them as they are used. If you have a nomination, go ahead and edit it into the list, or if you do not have the ability to edit, post it below and someone can edit it in for you. :D

Please put in the title and author in the list.

Also, please separate your nominations by genre: Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Historical Fiction. This will just help it remain organized. :D

Round Table Discussion Nominations Fantasy

Pegasus by Robin McKinley
Crown Duel/Court Duel by Sherwood SmithNote: A number of S.S.'s books are indecent; my mentioning of Crown Duel is not an endorsement of the others. Please read with caution.
The Children of Hu'rin by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Archives of Anthropos by John White
The Space Trilogy and Pilgrim's Regress by C.S. Lewis
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
Prophet by R. J. Larson
The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander
Round Table Discussions Nominations Sci-Fi

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
Trion Rising by Robert Elmer
I, Robot by Isaac Asimov
City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau (and film)
I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

Round Table Discussions Nominations Historical Fiction

Revolution is not a Dinner Party by Ying Chang Compestine
Carry on, Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham.
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick (and film)
The Eyes of Texas by Gilbert Morris

Round Table discussions Nominations 'Modern'/'Fiction'

Peppermints in the Parlor and it's sequel, The Perils of Peppermints by Barbara Brooks Wallace

Question: (And feel free to edit the answer into the first post) What are the guidelines to nominations? As in, modesty/language/any-other-problem that might be in it? Can we post anything, with everyone understanding that our post for the Round Table might not be and endorsement to read other books by the author, or even to read that book, but instead that we recommend they do research for themselves before they read? Or do we have guidelines that we need to go by?

I know that if a movie/book/TV show has issues in it, they can be addressed in the Round Table, so maybe people could nominate anything they want, and people wait for the Round Table to find out if there are any issues they would have a problem with?

If that is the case, the people who do the round tables are going to want to definitely research the items nominated so that they can decide what is in their appropriate range to watch/read or not.

Anyone may make a recommendation of any kind. I will do research on the piece before accepting the nomination, or vetoing it. Round Table Discussions will not be restricted to the same 4 people, thus a more mature content level may be acceptable for certain round table discussion. Warnings will be given if such content is involved in the movie/book.

Thank you for asking, Nemo.

Also, I would like to have a movie thread as well, if you don't mind making another one for me. :D I think having a movie thread and a book thread for the round table would make things easier. :D

(Yes, I'm the one who editted in a Tolkien book. XD)
Though the children of Hu'rin is the book by Tolkien I'd be most interested to discuss, I'd also be open to discussing most of his other works (exceptions being the ones I haven't read (yet)). Smith of Wooton Major and Farmers Giles of Ham would be great. Perhaps even a slightly longer podcast dedicated to Tolkien's lesser known works? I'd have to refresh my memory a little before hand, but I own several of his books (*is working on collecting them all *) and can borrow one that my Mom has.

I'd love to discuss The Archives of Anthropos by John White ('tis allegory written in the style of Narnia)and the above Lewis books as well, but I would definitely have to refresh my memory with those -- 'tis been way too long since I've read them.

I have been reading the Narnia books since I can remember, and could be part of such a discussion. :)

I'd also like to nominate the book I, Robot... I think Katie has read it, and I'm not sure who else besides me. :)

I have been reading them a lot too, so I'd be interested in being part of a discussion about them as well.

Can we suggest documentaries?

You can go ahead and edit your nomination in yourself. :D You don't have to wait for someone to do it. Airi is the one who will accept the nominations. These lists are just so that she knows what we want to hear on the podcast. :D

Documentaries on what? That would depend on the yay or nay factor. :D

Okay. The one I'm thinking of is called 'Monumental' it is by Kirk Cameron, and it follows him as he learns about American history and our Christian beginnings and talks about the need of basically a national reform to bring us back to what made us great in the first place.
I thought it might appeal well to us writers because it discusses how important history is, and how forgetting it can be a bad thing to do, as well as how monuments can be important and what makes a nation great...that sort of thing. On top of that it's just plain awesome. ;)

YES! Someone suggested this book! I LOVE IT! I just didn't suggest it quite yet. I was thinking about bringing it up later. I have TONS of Historical Fiction books, and I didn't want to bring them up all at once. *gives Katharina a virtual high-five*

I have edited Lycanis's and Katharina's suggestions in. :D

I'd like to suggest "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" (and the movie adaptation). I think this book would provide a lot of interesting discussion points. It's an unusual format (which portions of the story being told exclusively in pictures), and it's steampunk. Also, the story would raise several interesting topics - is it right to steal for a living, etc.

Also, I'd like to recommend City of Ember (book and film). There's some controversy about whether or not the story has an anti-Christian message. I love this book and have written an essay on the possible themes, so I think it would be great to discuss. It's steampunk also.

I love City of Ember! Or the book, anyway. I haven't seen the film.

I'd really love to see Prophet by R. J. Larson as a fantasy nomination.

I read City of Ember and liked it. I didn't know there was a film, though. Interesting... :)

City of Ember with an Anti-Christian message? I'm in! (Er, that means I'm volunteering if you do that one.) I haven't seen the movie yet, though. Maybe I will by the time you do it. :D

Hey everyone!

I'd just like to remind everyone that if you have the ability to edit the original post, go ahead and edit your nomination in. That'll save the hassle of someone needing to look through every post for a nomination, but instead can target a select few.

Only those who cannot edit themselves in can just post and not add themselves. ;)

I like the nominations! Keep 'em coming. :D I know I'll be posting some more soon.

Great nominations, guys. I will be going through these over the weekend and choosing one to launch the Round Table with next month. :D

Oops. Sorry. *dutifully edits his nomination in* By the way, I think I forgot to say in my nominating post that I'll volunteer to discuss The Name of the Wind, if there are enough people here that have read it for there to be a discussion. ;)

I'd like to nominate "The Fiddler's Gun" and "Fiddler's Green" by A.S. Peterson for Historical Fiction. Andrew and I could go on for a while about those...

Also, I'd like to nominate "To Kill a Mockingbird"...

All of the above books have language, and TKaM has some Tricky Subjects-esq stuff, so that should be considered...

Location: No; where is YOUR location?
Historical: I do agree with you that TKaM is a very well-written and strongly impacting and inspirational. But in it's strength, it may be a tad too strong. Especially where some of those things and some of the words used were more common and socially accepted in that time, less today. There is quite a good lot of bad language in that book, and some, as was said; 'tricky subjects.' It is a great book, but I fear it may be a bit too much.

Ooh! Two books;
Sci-fi Left behind trilogy... I've not read these, but books from what I have heard; are quite good. I don't know for sure though?

Fantasy: The Door Within.
(Wvyrm Lord and Final Storm are part two and three of the trilogy!)

Really awesome full-metaphor christian fantasy. Really good book!
I have found the writer on Facebook (TM)... I might could ask him for an interview... that would be awesome........

Suggestions for author interviews are always welcome. There's a separate thread for that. :D

(Wvyrm Lord and Final Storm are part two and three of the trilogy!)

Really awesome full-metaphor christian fantasy. Really good book!
I could possibly join this podcast as the dissident who didn't care much for the first book (haven't read the others). Though, I'd have to find and reread the book to freshen up on it.

Books like TKaM can still be suggested. :D I will look through the suggestions and anything with questionable content would be discussed among an age appropriate audience and would be marked on the Podcast if anything questionable is discussed.

Thanks for considering that, guys.

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

Works in progress:

The Diegosian Mark, 115,600 words (Preparing for Publication)
The Diegosian Rider, 121,400 words (Finished)

I added a "modern" or just "fiction" section to the list here, too. I can take it off if you'd rather, though.

I also nominated Peppermints in the Parlor and The Perils of Peppermints. I love those books... :D They are kind of dark, though. They're described as gothic novels.

I will be gathering a new round table group within the next couple days, and figuring out which piece to discuss next, so stay tuned, guys.

The Books of Umber, by P.W. Catanese? It's fantasy.

Yes. That one is the next one being done. I put it off a bit, though because I didn't want to overwhelm Grace with more podcasts to edit.
