I know HW doesn't want people bumping topics with one-word replies. I completely agree with this. So anyway, I was in reading a topic in Character Development, and noticed a option right next to 'Email Topic' that read 'Bump Topic'. Wondering what it was, I clicked it, and it took me to a 'You have successfully bumped this topic' page. I was like D: "I didn't mean to do that!" Now I am even more mystified, because going back to the topic, the 'bump' button is gone. Looking at the moderator logs, me accidentally bumping the topic is recorded. Any one have an explanation for this?

I am very confused. The button was there, because I clicked it and bumped a thread. Attached is a screen shot of the logged entry of me bumping it.

I'm very sorry about bumping it, folks. I didn't mean too.

That's okay. ;)

Now we just have to wait for someone with knowledge of the mechanism in question to explain it. :D

Bumping topics just shoves the topic up to the top of the first page of the list of topics -- I'm pretty certain of that, anyway. :?

Yes, that is what it did. It said I was the last to post in the Forge even though I wasn't. I don't know why I could see the bumping button then it was gone after... Or why it was there in the first place. o.O

In Hannah's Tech Support write ups, she says:

So, I think it's supposed to be disabled; the option is there but it shouldn't work.

But I thought what Hannah said meant that users weren't allowed to post one-word bumps. I never saw the "bump topic" button before, though I can see it now. Are we not allowed to use this option either?

EDIT: Upon investigation, it seems to only push the topic to the top of the forum it's in, but it does not post there, at least to my knowledge. I went and looked at who had posted last in the Village after I bumped one and it wasn't me.

This could be very useful...

So I should not have been able to see it and it shouldn't have worked?

I don't think we are supposed to use it. Yeah, the button pushes the thread to the top of the forum without making a post. Not sure if that is good or not...

No. For the same reason we do not post "bump", we do not use the bump topic button. We want people to post a response, or give a quality addition to the subject, or ask a question. That is what we are encouraging.

As to if you can see it... E?

It was very strange, because I only ever saw that button to bump it once, and I haven't seen it since.
