Hey, guys. The Sci-Fi forum and I are having some of our key members partake in Panel Discussion about Sci-Fi. We will be discussing things such as what are some of the reasons why many Christians view Sci-Fi as an unredeemable genre, how do you deal with aliens in Sci-Fi, and so on.

However, since we on the Sci-FI side obviously know all about Sci-Fi (or at least we like to think we do ;)), I thought I would come here to ask for ya'll question input.

What are your questions about Sci-Fi?

Are there things that concern you about Sci-fi? If so, tell us what they are so we can address them in the Podcast.

Why don't you write Sci-Fi? Is there something we could talk about that might help convert you?

I look forward to the responses. :D

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

What are some good, (preferably safe) places (magazines, websites) to learn about new techy stuff ranging from stuff they're trying to patent to stuff that they're dreaming of achieving one day?

Yeah, the main thing I can think of now is aliens in our universe...I think there's really no room for them. I read a book by someone that was (it seemed from their site and stuff) to be trying to prove (or exemplify or whatever) that aliens would fit perfectly in our universe-I disappreciate this because it seems to disregard a few key biblical concepts.
Even still, I think it's exceptible still to do a what if about it, just not saying this might really be; if you take my meaning.miniature Sam Gamgee quote.
I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on those. :D

Um...the main reason I don't (which I actually did, but it was not that tech oriented, more of a post-apoc. sci-fi) is because I don't know enough and I just...am not into it yet I guess (in some ways at least I'm not).
I think it'd help if you gave me some pointers on technology (where to learn about it) and possible theological implications of certain technologies, that might pull me in. ;)

I'm looking forward to hearing the podcast, thanks for being involved in this Airi! :D

I know virtually nothing about sci-fi. I wouldn't have any idea what questions to ask. However, to your last question...

No. There's not really anything that could persuade me to write it, but I'm pretty sure that's just a personality thing. I'm a sword toting, castle constructing, knight (or perhaps that would be knightess  ) of the King. My lover-of-all-cultures-ancient brain can't grasp the futuristic, techy worlds of sci-fi.

Though I guess that does bring up a good question. What defines sci-fi exactly? Is it possible to have a sci-fi novel that does not involve space travel, spaceships, and a high level of technology?

I don't write much at all anymore, but I used to dabble in sci-fi. Anyhow, building off of Celestria's last question, it would be neat if you guys could discuss the various subgenres in sci-fi and the differences between them. Like steampunk, dystopian...etc.

Oh! And some sci-fi book recommendations would be neat as well, though maybe that is too broad of a topic to cover in the same episode.
