You join the others milling about Holy Worlds. Everything is quiet and still, except for the occasional glitter-induced shriek.

Suddenly, a loud voice interrupts the peacefulness. "Lords and ladies, citizens of Holy Worlds!"

You turn to see a herald standing on the high platform in the middle of the square. A crowd is swiftly gathering around the herald, and you join it, full of curiosity.

"For years," the herald shouts, "a monstrous dragon, an evil dragon, has lurked in our domain. Few have ever seen the face of the beast, but all have been affected by the poisonous perfume of its breath. But at last we have found a way to face and defeat it.

"I invite you to embark on a quest to slay the evil dragon. This quest will be dangerous and grueling. It is not for the faint of heart or the coward. Only the strongest can hope to win. There is no retreat, no turning back! Only victory or death."

"What is the dragon?" someone calls from the crowd.

"The dragon's name," the herald pauses dramatically, "is Procrastination."

"But we have no weapons," someone else yells.

"We would not ask you to go on so great a quest, unless we planned to arm you with the greatest weapons from our arsenal."

The herald vanishes in a poof of smoke. You look down to find a piece of paper in your hand. It reads:

The Bulletin wrote:
The Quest: to slay the dragon Procrastination.

The Weapon: Holy Worlds' Procrastination Slayer

The Details: Holy Worlds is pleased to announce the advent of a weekly writing challenge. Each week, a task will be posted for you, such as writing a 500 word short story. You may choose to either do this task or make a goal based on your own writing projects. Threads will be made for weekly reporting, as well as a locked thread that will serve as a scoreboard.

The Rewards:
5 points for completing the weekly challenge.
5 points for completing a personal challenge.
2 extra points for completing a personal challenge that incorporates the weekly challenge.
3 extra points for each additional completion of the weekly challenge

The Death:
5 points deducted for declaring a personal goal or weekly challenge and then failing to complete it.

The Rules:
1. All challenges must be declared completed by midnight Saturday in your timezone (please specify your timezone when you sign up).
2. All challenges (personal or weekly) must be declared by midnight Monday in your timezone.
3. Personal challenges cannot be repeated.
4. The organizer reserves the right to veto any challenges that seem too simple. (i.e. writing a sentence)

The Commencement: Your quest will begin the first week of April. The appropriate threads will be posted on the thirty-first of March.

Are YOU brave enough to attempt The Quest?

I'd really like to join in as well, however somewhere in between there will be the removal of wisdom teeth and finals week. I may not be able to do that much, but I'd still like to give it a go, if that's alright.

Woot! Not only is this absolutely perfect for my writing needs right now, but I also happen to be rather fond of friend Death. ^_^

*grins* Glad you'll be joining us, Cassandra!

Also, I'd like to encourage those of you that attempt the weekly challenge to post your pieces in the Fireside. Once we have the HW Newsletter running, a piece will be chosen to be featured in it.

My dog grooming been really picking up, and I want to keep on writing my HF novel; between that and other projects I want to get involved in, I really don't think I'll have time for this, sorry. But I'll be watching, of course. I hope it goes well for you all.

Sounds awesome! Does it have to be fantasy writing for the personal goals?

That's totally understandable! One thing though, if you wanted to, I think that working on your HF novel could count as a "personal goal", then this quest might help you out instead of hindering you. Just a thought though, no pressure. :)

Elanor: Lycanis is right. If you set a personal goal for your novel for the week, that counts for the personal challenge.

Katharina: Nope! Any writing counts. It can be novels of any kind, poetry, wordbuilding articles, etc.

I guess I have a question...can a certain aspect of worldbuilding count as a personal challenge? Like, for me, I've been neglecting my history on human origination and migration in Vadra, and I could use some motivation to do that.
So what exactly did you mean by "worldbuilding articles"? Do you mean articles of worldbuilding writing (eg a dissertation of Vadran humans)? Sorry I'm a little confused. :P

If you make a goal to work on your history (or another worldbuilding aspect) and write up something about it to post on the forum/your blog/just put in your files, that counts as a worldbuilding goal. Does that help?

Yes, thank you! That way I can set a worldbuilding goal to go with the HW official goal. ^_^
