Howdy, gang!
Maybe you've found yourself wondering one (or all) of these questions. 'Are substitute swear words OK?' 'Is such-and-such word fine to use?' 'What is a substitute swear word?'
Well, this post will hopefully clear up any confusion you may have on the subject of substitute swear words... however, if you have more questions that aren't answered here, feel free to ask our MLs and Council members questions.
First we shall tackle the major question... 'Are substitute swear words OK?' We totally realize that each family has a different standard on what is acceptable and what is not. Remember, y'all, HW has members who are young, such as nine or ten. But it's not just about age.
Families differ greatly. One might find it appropriate to use these substitutes, the next might think they are offensive. But since HW has over 400 members, we realize we cannot possibly bend the rules here and tighten the rules there.
Our purpose is to provide a safe community for all families. So we have set the bar up higher. We should constantly be challenging each other, as brothers and sisters in Christ, to keep a high standard on what's okay and what's not.
As for 'Is such-and-such word a swear word?'... we can't legislate substitute swear words. That means that we cannot create a list of 'This word is okay, this word isn't'.
Substitute swear words come in many different forms. They might have just one or two letters and the rest in asterisks or be watered-down swear words. Whatever form a substitute swear word comes in, it's still a substitute swear word.
Now, I must challenge you for a moment. Is using a substitute swear word really that necessary to get your point across? Our English language has thousands and thousands of words.
I shall leave you to think on that a while. Thank you for reading.
