While we hate to admit it, bug dragons exist. This thread will be used to document current bugs and their fixes. While we are currently working on rebuilding the forum entirely, it's important to us that the current website is working for everyone.

So, if you find a bug, please document a brief description of the problem you're experiencing, we'll be sure to respond and start working on a fix as soon as possible.

Now, let's start this thread on a happy note. :)

You may have noticed the Anduin nav bar was broken it is now fixed and working. *cue confetti* ;)

I keep having to log in every time I try to get on even after checking "log me on automatically." But that is something I can deal with.

Thanks for letting us know, Faith. We've had a few users report similar issues so this bug is a priority for us. We're working on setting up a test environment so we don't break anything on the main site but we hope to have a fix rolled out A.S.A.P.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and I'll continue to update this thread as progress is made.

It actually didn't log me out last night, so that was good! :D There's not really any rush, so take your time.

I opened a thread, went to lock it, got logged out, logged back in and got this error message:

In the same section of the UCP as the time-zone (right below that, in fact) is a setting for "Summer Time/DST is in effect." If this setting is wrong, all times will be an hour off.

Thanks for your reply Jon, you are correct. If after changing the DST setting, you are still having problems, please let me know and I'll look into it.

That said, we should start to see DST adjust itself as we roll out some of the updates we're planning on in the near future.

After about a week of testing, it's official, the login bug is fixed and you should no longer get logged out just before you're done writing that extra long post. ;)

If anyone continues to run into this issue, please feel free to send me an email or PM, I'll do my best to help you resolve it.

I haven't gotten a notification email ("new topic notification", "forum post notification", or "topic reply notification") since October 26, despite there having been topics created and replies posted in between my dozen or so comprehensive passes through the forums since then.

Noted. I'll look into it soon.

In other news, chat seems to be having some issues, loads up a blank page (as seen when logged out). I shall look into this relatively soon as well.

Same same.

CoTI (http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Discuss/) had a similar issue a few weeks ago. Aramis is the admin that fixed it, and may have some ideas.

Thanks for the suggestion, but CoTI uses a different forum software, the problem is not likely to be the same.

We've seen this issue in the past and we'll work to get a fix rolled out. As we start to roll out updates to the forum software, we should start to less issues as well.

It should also be noted, the emails will now come from the address "[email protected]".

I don't know if it's really a bug but I've noticed I can only be logged in to Holy Worlds from one PC at a time. I always check the "keep me logged in" box and that works - until I login at a different computer - then when I go back to my main computer, I'm logged out and have to login again. (I tend to access Holy Worlds at home & at work.)

Interesting... Lady Elanor has been having some issues with logging in as well. Is there any significant amount of time between when you're accessing them from different computers?

I recently (as in sometime in the last two weeks) had to log in again in pretty much all my browsers, and before that had it happen in one browser or another on occasion, but the "remember me" functionality generally works quite well for me. (My usage pattern is to open links from notification emails in Elinks, but to leave a "pinned tab" open to the main page in Firefox and skim through that at least a few times a week. Plus some visits from computer-lab computers on occasion.) Lady Sparks, what browser(s) are you using? And do you have any kind of "tracking protection" setting turned on?

I use Chrome. I don't think I have any kind of tracking protection turned on either.

But all that being said - after having this problem 100% of the time for the past few months (as I access HW from work during the day and then my home PC at night) - right this minute it seems to be fixed? I had to log in to HW yesterday when I made the post. And I had to log in again at home as I got several notices for activity last night. But just now, back at work, I did NOT have to log in again!

I've been doing some playing with the login system over the past month due to some other reports I was getting. It very well may be you were experiencing the results on that testing. Let me know if you have any more issues!

When I followed the link in today's notification of a new topic in the New Members room, I found what appear to be three copies of the thread, none of which contain any posts. (So they continue to be "unread threads" even after I try to read them, though the "views" count goes up. And this same behavior occurs in both Firefox and the text-mode browser elinks, which further objects that the "unread" fragment doesn't exist when I try to visit the thread via the "first unread post" link.) Possibly related, on the main index page the "Last post" column says there are no posts in the "Introductions and Celebrations" area despite there being (according to the "Topics" column) 14 threads in that area.

I didn't try another browser, but I also was unable to read any of the three welcome posts from Hope Pennington. I did click on "Post Reply" on one of them to see if it showed up there, but it didn't.

I am unable to view Hope's post either. I suspect no post content was ever written to the database.

While this is not something I currently have access to, I'll send Joel an email and see if he'll take a look.

As always, thanks for letting us know about this issue!

That was my guess too :). I noticed that the URL in the "last post" column of the room index suggests that the database thinks the post ID of each of those three threads is 0, which I would suspect is either reserved as a "magic number" or was the first post ever and was deleted and is still on some "deleted posts" list.

Thank you for documenting all the specifics for this bug, guys. It was likely just a database glitch like Aidan said, but I have Joel looking into it.

Just dropping in to say I removed the duplicate topics but I could not find any source of the bug. So only the thread with replies is now visible. I'd suggest, if Hope wishes, she could just resubmit her welcome topic, either as a new topic or as a reply to the bugged one.

Not quite a bug but I just noticed my name up top is linked to the Logout button rather than to my profile. (3 guesses how I noticed... ;) )

Lady Sparks, thanks for the post!

Yep, that is intentional, the "UCP" link will take you where you need to go.

Thanks!

If I had a dime for every time I was involuntarily logged out in the last 10 minutes, I'd probably be at least 60 cents richer.

Forgot to mention this at the time, but I accidentally locked the wrong topic and someone who has no "rank" was still able to reply to it. That's not supposed to happen, is it?

I deleted a comment earlier and the comment was deleted but after confirming delete, I was sent to a strange page that almost seemed frozen and I had to manually come back to Holy Worlds.

Reiyen, I'm sorry to hear that, I had thought we got that bug figured out. Is there any chance you were on a mobile device at the time, using LTE, 3G, etc?

Nope, that's not supposed to happen. Was the locking and replying time fairly back-to-back?

There's been a lot of modification to the engine that runs HW, I'm a little worried that a lot of these bugs are coming from that. I have started a discussion with the administrators and they will decide the best course of action for getting everything updated.

Lady Sparks, was this page external to the Holy Worlds website?

Thank you all for the reports!

Thanks so much for your diligence, guys! I was out of town at Grace's wedding (eee!) and therefore ignored Aidan's emails for several days like the very rude person that I am. However, now that I'm back, we will be having a meeting within the next week to roll out a plan for fixing the immediate issues that are affecting y'all. As soon as that passes the mutual approval of the boys (because, y'know, they're the ones who have to do all the work), I will let everyone know what to expect and when.

Forgot to mention this at the time, but I accidentally locked the wrong topic and someone who has no "rank" was still able to reply to it. That's not supposed to happen, is it?

Nope, that's not supposed to happen. Was the locking and replying time fairly back-to-back?

There's been a lot of modification to the engine that runs HW, I'm a little worried that a lot of these bugs are coming from that. I have started a discussion with the administrators and they will decide the best course of action for getting everything updated.

I think there were a few hours between the locking and reply time, but I don't know for sure.

I know that at least some of the time that I've had that logout issue it's been me minding my own business on my laptop on my home wifi.
But my home wifi is basically haunted, so if I'm the only one, don't sweat it.

Reiyen, unfortunately (or fortunately :) ) I don't think your home network would be the cause of being logged out.

Thanks for your updates all, I'll do some digging and see what I can find.

Thanks!

Not a bug but just in case you weren't aware - the rules & FAQ are gone?

Lady Sparks, don't quote me on this, but I suspect this is due to many of those being out-of-date and as such, are in the process of being updated.

I would suspect the General herself can provide some clarity to this and have summoned her presence to this post. :)

Thanks!

I was not aware the summoning feature still worked. o.O

Yes, the rules and F&Q are in the process of being rewritten. I wasn't aware the old ones had gone down (unless I told Joel to do it and then forgot--an equally possible scenario >.>), so I'll have Joel look into it. But they were grossly outdated.

A (subscribed-topic reply, if it matters) notification email I received in the last hour or so (from what I gather is the new address for these?) had Content-Type header set to "text/html" despite its content being unchanged from previous messages, which had been accurately labeled "text/plain." This caused my email client (both Gmail, which I was using at first, and then Alpine when I investigated further) to run all eight (counting the "signature"), nicely (no line longer than 80 characters) formatted, paragraphs together into one long line.

We, or the dev team, can discuss whether notification emails should be plain text or HTML (I would argue that plain-text should be at least an option ...), but at the very least the Content-Type header should accurately describe the content.

Jon, thank you for the well researched bug report. I entirely agree with your analysis and I will pass this on to Joel, who has been making updates to the mail system.

Thanks!
Aidan

The problem with e-mails should be fixed now. It was a simple content-type problem.

Is there any particular reason all people can reply to locked posts?

One reason that comes to mind would be... it's a bug! :) Are there any examples you can send my way?

Thanks!

This response to a post on a locked topic.
You can hit "quote" and respond to it if you would like.

Actually, you can just hit LOCKED on the bottom and it opens the reply box

I assume the topic in particular Miss Elizabeth is talking about is: http://www.holyworlds.org/fantasy/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=9758

She locked it at about 4:30am CST and Domici posted a reply at 6:03am CST. I've already looked into it and it's a bug with the current install of phpBB. Testing shows it's related with the page redirect issue. I'm already looking into bug fixes. Stay tuned!

Yes, that is where I am referencing. Thanks for looking into it.

Do you remember when the last time they were working was? (Just trying to pinpoint a rough timeframe of when they went "offline.")

Joel is looking into it. In the next couple of weeks we are going to launch an update that should fix a lot of issues, and will involve some patches to chat.
