One that I really liked in our last home church was called "Trust and Obey." ^^

Oh I agree, some of the new songs don't hold as much meaning as hymns to me.

My three most favorites are "Oh the Deep Deep Love of Jesus" and "Brethren We Have Met to Worship" and "Ancient Words". I can't imagine ever not singing hymns in church. CCM just doesn't seem to have the same depth as the old hymns.

I've never heard of the second two Amanda I shall have to look them up later.

The words of those ones are very deep Mandy, I love them! It's a shame I don't know how they go.

My favorite hymns are 'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus and Blessed Assurance. There was recently a hymn night at our church and someone there told us the stories behind some hymns. That was really interesting!

Amazing Grace for me. After seeing the movie, I fell in love with this hymn. It's so beautiful, especially the original version. I also love "In Christ Alone".

I like "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder", "Blessed Assurance," "Rock of Ages," "Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus," "Amazing Grace," and "Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross."

I recently found St. Patrick's Breastplate. It's really good but it has many verses.

I bind unto myself the Name,

I love In Christ Alone, How Deep the Father's Love, and Before the Throne. However, I have so many favorites; you'd need a whole thread to contain them.

I can't remember it all properly, but apparently the man who wrote it had had a rough life, and when he finally found God, he wrote that song. But afterwards, he drifted from the Lord, and one day he was riding in a carriage with a woman who was saying just how much that hymn had done for her, and he was extremely uncomfortable. He eventually turned to her and said, "Ma'am, I am the miserable creature who wrote that hymn, and I wish to heaven that I had the peace now that I felt at the time I wrote it."

I'm not sure if he ever came back to the Lord.

That is tragic.

I know... And it's one of my favourite hymns too.

I've heard that story. I had forgotten that was the hymn it was for, though.

The Aventures in Odyssey site has the play for the man who wrote "It is Well {With My Soul}". It was very interesting, although also sad. The man's wife drowned... don't read it unless you're prepared to cry.

I think my favorite hymn is "How Great Thou Art."

I like many of the ones that have already been mentioned, too. "Be Thou My Vision" is also good.

O Holy Night is a huge favorite too. I love it's story in World War I.

Ooh, yeah. I didn't even think about Christmas carols as hymns. "What Child is This" is amazing, especially the second verse.

One Small Child. I sing it solo every Christmas. One of my favorites. And I love singing Angels we Have Heard on High as a duet with Sheila.

I love How Great Thou Art

We sang 'How Great Thou Art' at my wonderful grandma's celebration of her life. It makes me think of her now. We hear it so often whenever we visit different churches, it's amazing the coincidences of it.

So I realized today that I really love a lot of Easter hymns. I can only think of the ones we sang in church today, though.

At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing (Not exclusively Easter, but very much Easter in themes, and it's amazing. I love this song so much.)

Not simply forgiven, nay, far more than that. Legally justified, declared and made righteous. Bought. Once a slave to sin and satan, now a slave to Christ, but also His bride. We were once dead in our sins, incapable of moving, but now, for some reason, some reason, which I will never know, we are now alive in Christ and dead to sin.
