Here's a sister thread I made for the one Elanor made. (Elanor's thread "What's your favourite hymn?": http://holyworlds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1814

What are some of your favorite contemporary Christian music songs?

A few of mine:

To Bring You Back by Paul Alan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uH0OUiKWOAI

If Keith Green is, I like a few of his. I like the Christine Dente/Margaret Becker/Susan Ashton group. I also really like Colin Buchanan, an Australian singer/songwriter, he's really good. My favourite album of his is "Real Hope". When I get time, I'll rassle up a few of his songs for you to hear. :D

As a musician, I knew I couldn't stay away from this thread for long. :P To save time and space, I'll just list one song per artist, with a mix of some of my favorite bands and favorite recent songs. If I did a list of all my favorite CCM songs, that might overload the HW forum. I'll also leave off most metal and rap, since while they fall into the broad term CCM, they do not exactly fit in the CCM genre as played on the average Christian radio station. Plus I'll just put songs from the past 20 years. This is by no means a remotely comprehensive list.

Newsboys: Shine

DC Talk: Jesus Freak

Casting Crowns: Praise You In This Storm

Mercyme: Bring the Rain

Barlowgirl: Never Alone

Plumb: I Can't Do This

Falling Up: Moonlit

Tobymac: Diverse City

Group 1 Crew: Movin'

Krystal Meyers: Make Some Noise

Michelle Tumes: Dream

Todd Agnew: Grace Like Rain

Kerri Roberts: No Matter What

Disciple: 321

Audio Adrenaline: Some Kind of Zombie

Carman (w/Mylon LeFevre): In the Name of the Lord

Steven Curtis Chapman: Dive

Skillet: Savior

Jeremy Camp: Take My Life

And this is easily less than 1% of the songs I could list.

I like the newest MercyMe album, Generous Mr. Lovewell, Nicole Nordman, Brandon Heath and most of the K-Love radio songs.

Oh, Jonathan, once I looked up the lyrics to 'Shine' by the Newsboys and tried to sing it... :P

I found where you can hear some samples of the songs by Colin Buchanan. This is my favourite album, as I said, "Real Hope".

http://orders.koorong.com/search/produc ... 0000618667

Some of my favourites are-

The Word Became Flesh

Jesus My Lord

Glory to the Rock of Ages

Press On Mums.

I also like some of the songs on this kids album. ;)

Tell me what you think of our Aussie artist! :D

Hahaha! :D Actually, we have his big music book that contains the sheet music of every one of his songs, and we've been learning to play some of them. :D

I like most of the songs on K-LOVE too and the artists you mentioned. :) I could go ahead and have a long, tiring list of CCM songs I enjoy as I did with the hymns--yea or nay? ;)

My favorite songs usually go through stages.
1. Hear song on radio.
2. Get Dad to buy it.
3. Listen to it 100-something times.
4. Get a bit tired of it, move onto another set of songs.
:P

But here are my [current] favorites:
Healing Begins - Tenth Avenue North
Your Love - Brandon Heath
The Power of Your Name - Lincoln Brewster
Brave - Nichole Nordeman
Our God - Chris Tomlin
Jesus Saves - Jeremy Camp
Hosanna - Brooke Fraser
Lead Me - Sanctus Real
Forgiven - Sanctus Real
...and tons more. ;)

Ooh, I like (most) of those! Do you like this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3SjCuSkaNs? It's along the same beat of those songs, and I like it. :)

I have a lot of favorites, so I won't list them all... :P

Just about any song ever (co-)written by Andrew Peterson. Seriously. A playlist for his (incredible) Christmas album is here. We listen to it year-round. He's that good.

Healing Begins by Tenth Avenue North.

Our God by Chris Tomlin. I could play this song until everyone in our house goes insane from hearing it. :D

Carol of the Bells by TSO.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day by MercyMe. I love the 3rd verse. O.o It sends chills down my spine.

I Am New by Jason Gray. Amazing.

I'll probably add more as I think of them...

Wow... those lists go on FOREVER.

I like Christ Tomlin too... and has anyone heard of the Sons of Korah?? Their CD's (I've songs from Shelter, Ressurection, Rain, and Sons of Korah) are AWESOME. They take NIV Psalms and put them to music.

I'm super, super picky about CCM songs. :P (and no, I don't think rock is evil or anything like that. ;))

I don't like hardly any girl singers, because they sing too sensuously. I don't like hardly any popular bands because their songs are so vague and abstract. And I don't like a lot of styles because they seem too worldly. Then again, there are tons of artists that just plain aren't my style.

However, I find I like the most random things at times. I'm usually very die-hard acoustic, and yet Owl City is growing on me. Go figure.

So I may have to look up some of the artists y'all have mentioned on Pandora. Who knows? I might find some new favorites.

All that said -- my favorite CCM song at the moment is definitely East to West, by Casting Crowns (some of you who know me well will probably not be surprised at this).

I also like:

Voice of Truth, and Courageous by Casting Crowns

How Can I Keep from Singing by Chris Tomlin

Pretty much anything by Phillips, Craig and Dean

The Arms that Hold The Universe by Fee

Everything on Adie Camp's Only You album

Quiet My Heart by Brooke Barretsmith

You Love Me Anyway by Sidewalk Prophets

I'm Not Who I Was by Brandon Heath

Mum's been playing a lot of Don Fransisco lately, and I realised what brilliant lyrics his songs have. Amazing. So I've started listening to them too. :D

Dito to that! And some are just downright ubiblical. The other day (month, whatever) I was listening to the radio, and I got the part in Mikeschair's "Someone Worth Dying For," and it suddenly struck me how unbiblical that is! If we're worth dying for, there is nothing amazing about Christ dying for us. I can understand that they were trying to make the point that we're special and God loves us, which is perfectly true, but I think sometimes we go to the far extreme and forget that we are nothing but dust and vapor. And that makes Christ dying for us all the more beautiful.

There are way to many to list here...
Sea of Faces, Promise of a LIfetime, What Faith Can Do, All Of The Words (Kutless)
What if His People Prayed, Stained Glass Masquerade, Voice of Truth, Praise You In This Storm (Casting Crowns)
Indescribable, Amazing Grace, Our God, God of This City (Chris Tomlin/Passion)
All of Amanda Falk's songs
Walk on the Water (Britt Nicole)
Heaven is the Face (Stephen Curtis Chapman)
The Words I Would Say (Sidewalk Prophets)

And many others, but it takes a really long time to copy down my whole iTunes list. It also takes a long time to copy-paste and take out the songs times, albums, etc.

@Grace: I rarely ever listen to new Christian music, unless I am sat down and forced to hear it. :D I stick to the few artists I know, or much of the old stuff. I don't listen to many girl singers either, but I think you would really like Francesca Battistelli. :D She has beautiful songs, with such good lyircs!

I listen to quite a bit of the more mild stuff like Phillips, Craig and Dean (though my parents say they're actually old :D). I've heard a couple Francesca Battistelli songs, and I like them fairly well... I like "This is the Stuff" but don't care for "Free to be Me." Her voice is lovely, just not my style...remember, I'm the person who'd take Broadway music and soundtracks over anything contemporary any day.

*chuckles* "Free to Be Me" could well be my theme song. ;) Some of the older artists I like, not many people have heard of. :P Such as Dion, for one.
