Well, normally it's two options...but normally, it's a "would you rather" question with a verb of some sort. Like "would you rather do X or Y", "would you rather be X but life sucks, or be Y but life rocks", etc. Lately, people have been asking more of a simple "do you prefer X or Y"--and this is ok (I mean, it's a game ) and so three options works fine for that kinda question.

*doesn't really know the difference between an alligator and a crocodile.

Alligator/crocodile, no question! If on land, you can outrun them. If in water, there's always a chance you can hold their mouth shut (I understand this is actually possible, as the muscles that open their mouths are far weaker than the ones that close them).
